The direct sequel to 'High School Musical' is another cheesy Disney film. However, you can tell from the locations that the budget is a little higher. The summer setting creates a relaxed atmosphere, while the musical sequences are more elaborate. On the other hand, there are fewer memorable songs, and the plot remains as thin as in the first installment.

After spending 2006 rewatching High School Musical over and over again, I couldn't wait for High School Musical 2 at the time. I was extremely happy when my mom got the dvd from the rental store.

Even at age 11 I was quite disappointed by this movie. Not all the songs work as well (still got some iconic ones though) and it feels like a much slower pace.

If the message of HSM 1 would be to be yourself and HSM 3 is about graduating and saying goodbye to the friends you made, HSM 2 is about... hating your summer job.

They're dancing and singing all the time and when they're told they have to work, they're annoyed.

It's still a very nostalgic movie to me but it was definitely hard to get through. The fun and the nostalgia I had outweigh those feelings though.

this ones such a classic. the drama, the songs, the costumes. absolutely better than the first one. i think the thirds my favorite but i absolutely adore this. aged really well i think, and the little miley cameo was fun. i remember being obsessed with humma humma back in the day

Personally I think this did exactly what a sequel is meant to do. It holds all the sweetness and charm of the original movie but slightly ups its game. It's nice that Zac Efron actually sings the songs for his character Troy Bolton in this installment compared to when someone did voiceover vocals for him in the first movie. I think the singing voices of the whole cast have slightly improved here as well though some of the songs aren't quite as memorable. Music in Me and Everyday are the songs that hold a special place in my heart. I don't think Sharpay's songs (Fabulous and Humuhumu...) are quite as strong as some of the songs she lead in the first movie.

This is charmingly sweet and a slight upgrade from the first movie encompassing loads of 2000's nostalgia. if that's your thing then check it out.

I never noticed how different they look and how much 'older' in comparison to the first movie. They definitely look better. Still one of my guilty pleasures.
