This movie starts out unsettling with a nice sense of dread, although to me it wears off about halfway through. For all the talk about how cheap traditional jump scares are, I think the “elevated horror” template is starting to get a little paint by numbers. Sure, the creepy unorthodox score and the long tracking shots with whirlwind editing can get you over with a lot of people but I think you need a bit more than that, and in a lot of cases that is a trade off for logic leaps that would be called out in any other standard horror film. In the end it’s a pretty standard, predictable horror story that doesn’t really amount to much. Full disclosure, a certain cameo in this movie may have completely soured the whole thing and turned it into a parody of an A24 style horror film, that just made me laugh.

#1 This day and age we LIVE by our phones sooo if my phone is on .21% and someone lets me in their house, 1st thing is plug up cell. #2 am I the only one getting mad because ole Karen is off in lala land but snaps back and answers questions when she wants to? #3 you're staying in a weird woman's basement and even though you took a shower why are you chilling in the towel. The outside, house, food, lady, and the fact that the TV only seems to pick up cartoons is enough facts for me to put on some clothes and shoes with grip (stay ready so you don't have to get ready). #4 find Rylieys punk ass so we can hop in with the rabbit hunter and bounce since this truck is running, we'll figure out what he's saying after we get to civilization. I'll probably come back with 5 shortly.

I'm back but all I have for #5 is 1 hour 47 minures 4 seconds of my life wasted on this movie.

Over-stylized garbage. I don't like this at all. It's painful to sit through and has no redeeming quality whatsoever. I bet the director thinks he's the horror film savior offering something groundbreaking the genre or something. It's boring, plodding and doesn't really go anywhere, if it does it takes forever. The script is shallow and poorly written, the characters are annoying constantly making dumb choices without any good reasoning, the unecessary editing choices, some are cool but it's not enough. Not a single soundtrack or should I call it random noises fit the picture. I was waiting for the "surprise" but there's none. I didn't feel any suspense at all, just confusion and frustration.

Like a regifted suit of human skin, it was stylish but not my style, and a little too long so I couldn't really get into it.

Watch _Tous les dieux du ciel_ / _All the Gods in the Sky_ (French, 2018) instead.

There is in "The Texas Chainsaw Massacre", its main reference, a savage criticism of conservative America, in front of a materialistic youth. In both cases, it is external characters who meet the squalor of an underworld that remains hidden. However, this film tries to hide its narrative weaknesses with a useless stylization of the image, which is as superficial as it is barely disturbing.

The kind of film that gets weirder and more disturbing as it goes along. Thankfully, this is my kind of film. While it’s not a classic it is a film that could gain cult status.
