Hostile is a heartbreaking low budget apocalyptic movie that is worth a watch. It sets itself apart from the other apocalyptic movies with flashbacks that help explain a somber back story about the main character. The viewer will not know what caused the apocalypse, but there may be some hints that will help with speculation. Hostile is not bad as many of the zombie B-movies on Amazon Prime are. But, the ending is so bizarre. I hope there is a prequel that thoroughly explains what caused the apocalypse.

Well done movie. Had it been longer it likely would have dragged, but at less than 90 minutes, this is quite good. The ride's better than the destination, but good character development, competent acting, not the story you expect. It does a good job with a non-linear narrative. Nice little low budget sci-fi gem.

wtf. why? at some point its not a horror movie anymore, but a pretty woman knockoff with a ending that shoved it all down the toilet.

The film is entertaining enough and worth a look, but can't escape the feeling that it has little new to offer. The flashbacks aren't particularly compelling and it's fairly obvious where they are heading. With the film fairly evenly split between the present and the past, the result is a messy uneven film that works intermittently when it focuses on its contained location and central dilemma.

Despite being marvelously directed, _Hostile_ proves to be just another zombie film as it's a mindless, generic clone in a genre that refuses to die.

The film starts off very well with nice cuts and excellent use of music, but when the story of a young woman trapped in her vehicle after the zombie apocalypse is revealed, the film gets stuck. The story is bogged down in flashbacks of a romance which has tenuous links to her present, but feels more like filler for a thin plot which was already thoroughly explored in 2015's _Curve_.

Even sadder, the ending is more of a punchline than a twist and reduces the first 90 minutes of the film to a laughable WTF.

The acting may very well have been good, but I couldn't tell as the cinema showed this dubbed in French. What I can confirm is that young Brittany Ashworth gave good face and male lead Grégory Fitoussi is gorgeous, and that's enough for me to conclude he's talented. ;-)

I'd love to see director Mathieu Turi try another film, only perhaps something he didn't write or at least something less derivative.

Hate to trash on a film this early but this was quite bad.

It plays in a post-apocalyptic scenario with ghoulish monsters where the main character gets trapped inside her car after an accident and has to survive the night. - And yes, this isn't really an unique scenario... so what could one do to spice things up? Introduce a parallel storyline of where she met her husband told through flashbacks! Why didn't anyone think of this before? Combining the powers of cliché horror with the ones from romance certainly must work! Nothing is more exciting than seeing the main character act like a moron only to follow this up with a flashback to her past. If it actually served any purpose except doing that one thing it would have probably been better but I cannot take this script seriously if nothing holds up... Character traits and motivations are inconsistent (she even switches her drink choice in the same timeline), the depiction of her "problem" is out of whack and nothing in the post-scenario is logical or grounded in any form of consistent world building.

A relationship is like a horror movie with its idyllic beginning and then the first hints of trouble that lead to scary moments before the inebriated inevitable happy or sad ending... Or both.
