Overall this movie was a fine effort by a young David Mamet. There was some awkward dialog at different points but I think the overall story more than made up for those moments. While some may think that the movie is about con men I think the last scene cements the fact that the film was about a woman who was lost only to find herself after a series of odd events. The con men are all excellent (I miss Ricky Jay!) but Lindsay Crouse left something to be desired.

This film reminded me of Mamet's The Spanish Prisoner, although I preferred that movie over this one even though it also suffered from some shoddy delivery.

Solid psycological crime movie. Alsmost everything you'd want from a movie.

Some negativity I've read and my response...
Lindsay isn't a good actress. I'd agree but she didn't spoil the movie for me. I got used to her.

Lindsay's character Margaret is smart but does stupid things. Is she? That's why I like it. She's the acedemic. She's memorised and learned from books and is qualified and smart but it still isn't as effective as Mike and his street level psycology. That's why she's fascinated with him.

It was predictable. A little. But it's the type of movie that makes you think of outcomes so yeah you'd arrive to it. Doesnt make it a bad movie. Plenty of other stuff going on and not as predictable as most movies that you don't even have to think about.
