When there's punctuation in the title AND the declarative title is put to song in the first ten minutes, it becomes clear we're about to see the speaker experience some epic comeuppance. Here, it's poor Joan getting a whole lot of unanswered prayers in the form of worsening weather that prevents her from making it to island where she is to be married. While she waits, drama ensues. I didn't find this compelling, mostly because of the directorial tone that was struck at the beginning which felt condescending and cheeky to me.

This is a cracking outing for Wendy Hiller and Roger Livesey. The former is a young Englishwoman who gets engaged to an older, much wealthier businessman who invites her to join him on a remote Hebridean island. She arrives at an adjacent island, but is hemmed in by bad gales and so has to remain. D More
