Years ago I saw a movie clip of Debbie Reynolds as a football and it was so athletic and quirky and interesting that I immediately looked up the movie the scene was from and was determined to watch it. And I was curious. Why was she a football? What's this movie about and what does that have to do with it? I finally found it at my local library. Having seen it I can now say that the football scene has nothing to do with anything. Its a random scene from a musical she stars in but it's not a big part of the plot. The plot is interesting, the music is fun, the skating scene is amazing, but...
And that was the issue. There's some good and some great but in the end I didn't love it. Mostly because I didn't like Melvin. He became morose and depressed anytime things didn't go his way. He threatens to kill himself if she won't marry him and when things blow up in his face, instead of staying to fight for her he gives up on life, quits his job and basically becomes a vagabond. Does that sound like marriage material to anyone? I sure hope not.
