In one of the film's rare dialogue scenes, it is said that art must be a transformation. But there is little transformation in this movie. There is a vindication of that ascetic gaze of Bresson, but even the French director distinguished between cinema (filmed theater) and cinematograph (a new form of representation). This film is cinema, it fails to achieve the faculty of being a cinematograph.
