An efficient little suspense film that doesn't last long enough to get old.

Reminiscent of Dead Calm but on land or The Hitcher on a smaller scale or Deliverance but less rapey.

Good god, this was bad. The only nice thing was the setting. Everything else was a shitfest.

The first third of the movie has a great claustrophobic vibe in setting and direction but once the "story" progresses it gets too unrealistic to the point where I didn't really get the antagonists motivations or scope of his doings. Could have been great if only they went a different direction and left out some of the clichés.

"Max tells a story in the car about a kid (Which would have been Max) who used to stand in front of cars down country lanes and it caused a crash that killed a driver. At the end we see a wide shot of her driving full force at him, standing in the middle of the road and it smashes to black. Personally, I think she was so close by the time it cut that she did hit him. "<br /> <br /> "director explained that what Max was doing was subjecting people to an experiment "in fear". He wanted to see if he could provoke a total stranger into trying to kill him."<br /> <br /> a bit more sense.

@PedroPT Yeah I figured it wasn't worth trying to make sense of the whole thing. The opening sequence shows a car spinning of the road (although that wouldn't necessarly happen when crashing a human) so that is either the guys past or what then happened to her. The sequence also shows the process of faking the map, etc. which had me thinking he did that quite often because there is also a car graveyard at the hotel. But if that is so this seems all rather silly. He also had to be at multiple places at once and the ending would make even less sense. This whole setup to time for exactly those two seems unreasonable. Seriously, if you scare the shit out of people they will fucking kill you so that would again point at this being a single incident...

either way was still a disappointment ( the start was nice, reminded me of Dead End,witch is one of my favorite horror movies). i´m amazed by the metacritic score, very rare to be so "high" on this kind of movie.

@PedroPT so I checked out Dead End. While it had a more original story I didn't like it all that much and when it comes to making sense of it it's not far beyond In Fear (for example the note, the presence of Death, etc). I didn't get the twist early though due to the comparison to this movie :)...

@sp1ti maybe i was in the right moof the day i saw it. in fact i also saw 1404 and loved it. Dead End is more supernatural based but i loved the "Madness" and fear it created on the characters..

With Iain De Caestecker's performance as a standout element, this "car invasion" film is a little bit _Wrong Turn_ (2003) and a little _Duel_ (1971). It delivers thrills and a great atmosphere.

I don't quite understand the low ratings of this movie. Personally I found it quite good. It wasn't a high standard thriller movie but it got me feeling 'in fear'.
As soon as the movie starts you feel that something is not right. I could not stop cussing at my tv about the stupidity of these two characters because let's be honest, they weren't the smartest and they made poor decisions along the road, literally. However, I felt that this irritation pulled me in to the movie. There was a very eerie vibe that lasted right till the very seconds.
The way the plot developed was a good steady pace for me, conclusion was really good
I actually like that they went for a batcrap crazy psycho who just seemed to taunt, haunt and eventually kill for fun because that way it seemed impossible to win.
So I rate this movie at an 8, because it made you feel uneasy watching.

I thought it was ok for a movie that had no script. I was actually a lot more scared for the actors in the film since they had no idea what was about to happen or what was going on. Especially in that scene where Lucy found Tom in the trunk. It felt like I was watching a prank video without being told it was a prank.
