It was quite a mind trip but really hit the atmosphere and everything. Overall, it was pretty good.

There are some creepy moments here and there, and the post-pseudo-pandemic setting was intriguing, but a weirdly disjointed plot and ho-hum acting keep it from really going anywhere too interesting or truly scary. This is diet Lovecraftian horror, going for "big, unknown terror" but the scale of the potential evil is never really realized. It's also just too long and drags in spots. It had potential but never reached what it could have.

If Peter Fonda had made The Trip as a Sci Fi horror film it would have been better. Throw in Karen Black and a masterpiece. This twaddle doesn't come close.

I've often found myself in situations where I've thought, what would Ben Wheatley do?

A film as imperfect as it is fascinating. Ben Wheatley recovers the representation of alchemy that he showed in "A field in England" (2013) to move us to a modern society in the middle of a pandemic. The "conversation" with nature proposes a journey from the pandemic horror movie to psychedelia, with impressive use of sound and an astonishing soundtrack by Clint Mansell reveres John Carpenter. This "haunted" forest thus becomes the best representation of the dangers that threaten human beings.

That was very underwhelming. Too bad because I expected more after all the talk. I dug the style. Great cinematography and cool visuals but lack of substance couldn't save this film. The premise was interesting but it didn't go anywhere from there. There's no real story going on and I find it painfully slow and boring. None of the characters are even good. Their lack of emotions make it hard to feel sympathetic for them and there's no real motive for the villain's action. The light flashes became very annoying after some time. This is another failed attempt to recreate good folk horror with engaging story like Blair Witch Project or Midsommar. For me it doesn't work as a horror film as it barely has any horror element. Oh, and I get it you have a foot fetish.

Well, I've heard of B movies, but never D movies...., Dull, Dumb, Dreadful,.... are just a few polite words to describe this Drivel.............. This is 90 mins too long. its a student short film of 15 mins stretched our to 1hr 45mins. Its badly acted with an awful story. The lead character, reminds me of David Walliams in one of his little Britain 'comedy' sketches doing bad acting. Reece Shearsmith is a good character actor, but is directed here to re-enact parts of he's characters from the league of gentlemen, its laughable.
Other bits to show it was a student film included, the consistent fade to black between scenes ( how many directors do this? none). The awful over use of flash single frame montages and then combine this with the over the top strobe light effects in the 3rd act and Im surprise this passed the Harding photosensitive epilepsy (PSE) test at all........
Seriously DONT WAIST YOUR TIME....

Intellectual neo-horror that's like a bank robber at work: It holds up.

Imagine Apocalypse Now directed by Robert Eggers / Ari Aster / Jordan Peele.

A mood board of feelings and abstract ideas, In The Earth is an incoherent smattering of imagery and emotions with very little plot to tie everything together. Wheatley attempts to reduce the feelings of the pandemic down to an isolated trip to the woods to very weak effect. While the feelings are conveyed, the rest of the film lacks the conviction to really sell what is on display here. A bit of misplaced dark humour then confuses the tone further, making this a very jumbled mess of a production. Any but the most die hard of Wheatley fans should avoid, it’s just not worth the time investment for so little payoff from this mixed tone piece.

what drugs do i need to enjoy this movie?

4/10 would have been a 3/10 at best possibly a 2/10 if not for the blood and gore which always works for me.
That being said
Garbage and went nowhere with a cop-out ending like all these bull-crap movies do. 1H 50M of my life I will never get back.
This is all I have to say, I've wasted enough time on this Trash.

One of the better horror movies of recent times. Unsettling, gory, and very well made.
