Excellent. Intoxicating. Sensual. This movie dealt with love in a more restrained manner. The juice was in the details of every frame and every frame was saturated with information about the characters. It is worth having in your library. I loved how they dealt with the secret. I felt a little unfulfilled at the end but you understand it all the same. It was real and intense and beautiful. "2046" look out for those numbers...a related movie that may interest you. ;)

A very beautiful movie. Not only in the heartbreaking story but also just how good it looks.

Its in the sounds and pauses between phrases and colors that linger long in the mind, waiting, hoping for that love that we naturally desire as humans. Didn't really have any expectations and they were thoroughly surpassed

Back in 2002 I watched it "by accident" on some random german artsy TV channel. I wasn't into foreign cinema or even profound cinema of any kind at that time. I was only 18 years old. But this movie changed my way of looking at movies. My taste completely changed from that moment on. Everything about this story is so sad, so special. I was obsessed with Maggie after it. I watched all the movies of the director I could find. It literally changed my view of movies, and if you will, my view of love. This kind of romance, you don't find in many movies. It is just so special. It touches me every time I watch it. The music, the colours, the acting. It's just perfect. The best movie about love you'll ever witness. I'm 37 years old now and I still think that's true.

“In the Mood for Love” is a subtle and delicate portrait of platonic love in mid-’60s Hong Kong. It’s a little restrained and repetitive if compared to Wong Kar-Wai’s other films, but from an aesthetic point of view, it’s definitely one of his most refined and mature works. The lack of action is purposely stressed out, as the characters are being constantly held back by their insecurities and chronic loneliness. The same camera angles, the same actions, the same music are obsessively repeated to mark the passing of time, with the images speaking more than the words. Su and Chow are often shown through windows, curtains, or other common items, as if the viewers were one of the couple’s invasive neighbors who are spying on their clandestine relationship.

An almost political attempt to redeem the Orient’s ‘ontological inequality’.

Quite lovely, nevertheless, upon those standards.

God, this film was gorgeously shot and just so intoxicating. The tension in the story and between the protagonists was just amazing to watch, and the way there's so much that's said between the lines and left to interpretation only adds to that. Loved it.

I had very high expectations because of its enormous reputation and all the praise it gets. They were surpassed.

This is one of the most unique films that I have ever seen and I think it is one that demands multiple viewings. If you look up "subtle" in the dictionary you'd probably find this movie in the definition. I had to read through several reviews to even get a glimpse of what I missed. The subtle interactions between the two leads is incredible. So much of their time together happens in the shadows - it really adds to the feel of a forbidden love. One thing that I missed is the director's use of color in the middle and then at the end. It really is a joy if you want to do a little work for it.

An elegant ballet where restraint dances with innuendo to the music of color.

Saw this for the first time in a fully restored version on a massive screen and never have I felt so outclassed by a movie.

This was my first Wong Kar-Wai movie and I must say, "Holy shit." I loved absolutely everything about this experience. The acting, the soundtrack, the freaking colors! No other movie can embody the emotions this stirred up. It may take some time, but I can't wait to dive back into this one on a re-watch.
