The only film I ever walked out of. This movie broke me. I feel violated. I almost feel offended by how bad this is.

I still don`t understand how can this movie be so boring with so many great actors in it, but it is. So boring.

Joaquin Phoenix plays a PI in a 70s California beach down, given three separate cases to investigate. He attempts to do so through a haze of drugs, and as he starts to get a grip on his work he begins to lose his grip on reality.

Forget the synopsis though. You just have to sit back and drink it all in. The biggest trick Anderson manages to pull here is making a film that perhaps doesn’t ‘make sense’ at first viewing, but isn’t frustrating or difficult to watch.

Everything about Inherent Vice suckered me right in. The hazy, smoke-filled cinematography, the writing, the music, the odd but hilarious sense of humour, the neo-noir plot that slowly falls to bits… it all kept me glued to the screen and as the credits rolled I only wanted to press play again.

Inherent Vice may be divisive, but it’s without a doubt one of the most beautiful and original films of the last few years.

One of the best f*cked up movies I have seen since The Big Lebowski - and there are some resemblances to it as well. A hell of a witty, funny, turbulent film!

Had mixed feelings about it. A cross between the Long Goodbye and the Big Lebowski. Plot is hard to follow and the film is punishingly long. But it is a very nice looking film, it's laugh out loud funny in several spots, and Joaquin Pheonix is terrific in it.

Well, that was confusing. I don't know, maybe I was expecting a bit more of the end, and there's still a few thing I didn't understand.

Just light up a phat one, crack open a brewsky, and press "play". Don't even try to make sense of it. And voila - entertainment.

A very good movie, the action is very rare in this movie, but it brings me a bit with agent 007, but it's much too long for 144 minutes sometimes you get bored with it, it's funny and not always, as in the case of very rarely.

Great mood and cinematography, memorable characters, and bizarre situations. As Josh Brolin said: "It's like sitting down, taking a massive bong hit, and watching "Chinatown". Like, good luck."

I know that the plot is purposely nonsensical and convoluted, but the trippy atmosphere was not enough to keep me interested until the end. Trimming some extra fat would help. The absolute highlight for me was Bigfoot’s character and his relationship with Doc.

From Paul Thomas Anderson comes the noir-ish dark comedy Inherent Vice. Set in California during the ‘70s, a private eye named Doc Sportello goes looking for an ex-girlfriend when she disappears after coming to him for help. Unfortunately the script is terrible, and is full of convoluted subplots that go nowhere and that don’t make any sense. Joaquin Phoenix, Josh Brolin, Joanna Newsom, and Owen Wilson all give good performances, and the costumes and set designs are remarkably well done. But the storytelling is so poor that everything gets lost in the monotony. A poorly made film, Inherent Vice is a chaotic mess that ends up being pointless.
