Seeing the news about how in the USA, teachers are told what they can and can't teach makes this film sadly relevant in 2023. How crazy.

Ignorance is everywhere. While watching I was thinking if weather conditions have something to do with religious belief?

Great movie, great performances, great fans. What should have been light and hope turn into hatred and desire to eliminate those who don't think like you, but when they ask you to explain, it sounds ridiculous

The movie isn't just a classic. One of the best plays ever written, one of the best acted, and as thought provoking and meaningful today as it was when it was made.

It is based on a true court case in the 1925. The religious zealots had passed prohibition, outlawed thinking, and became so self absorbed in their own ignorance, even the best educated used their own personal versions to control everyone else. It's not much different than today. "Those who fail to learn from the past are doomed to repeat it."

"He tried to look for God too high up and too far away.". God isn't the control we can force on others. God is the gift of the mind and "what warms you".

Those like Temporary Honorary Colonel Drummond are the ones that believe that we can find common ground in all our beliefs if we would just quit forcing others the believe what we believe. No other movie shows better how stifling people convinced of their own "right" and "wrong" really are.
