Gina, 15, lives in a city on the edge of the forest. She admires her father, unpredictable and whimsical, able to take his children at night in the woods, even to forget them. Jimmy's more and more frequent skids end up alarming his wife Carole. Soon, the fragile family balance is broken when Jimmy is interned in a psychiatric hospital. When Gina meets Nico, a boy from her neighborhood, she awakens to love and sees a chance to escape her father.

_La Forêt de mon père_ / _Into Dad's Woods_ is another melodrama about the effect a mentally ill parent has on his children. Unfortunately, the role of the troubled father is too much for the leading man and we feel the director's hand in every melodramatic turn of the actors' heads. A shame, really, because, at 16, Léonie Souchaud is putting on her big girl shoes and stepping out of the child roles that launched her career and into more mature parts... and is doing so with a grace and talent that make her a rising star to keep an eye on.
