this is a must see but not for the faint of heart. this movie will challenge you, both visually and emotionally. i will let you know that the camera does eventually stop moving so much. if it werent for the subs to keep my eyes "grounded" on something stable i think i would have been seasick. the movies climax, and most talked about scene, is beautiful and so deeply disturbing. if it doesnt affect you on the deepest levels, i just dont know what would.
the cinematography in this is just amazing. i would even argue that it almost becomes a character. the frenetic pace at which the camera spins and gradually slows down and steadies at vital moments puts the viewer in the exact frame of mind that they need to be in.
this seriously is a work of art.

One of the more disturbing movies i have ever seen. That scene where those guys go underground to find someone and keep running into these gay sex scenes between guys was too horrific to watch. Also that rape scene with Monica Bellucci was just too real. It looked like they planted a hidden camera and waited for an actual rape to happen, it looked that real.

The movie is filmed in the same way as Memento was filmed, we see a few minutes of the movie and than it goes back to a few minutes before that.

This is certainly not a movie for the weak minded. If you are looking for something full with entertainment and fun than keep looking. This movie is not meant for you.

Some scenes were just over the top and the beginning with the camera movement and soundtrack was physically upsetting and almost made me nauseated.

Amazing movie the reason it gets a 7 rather than an 8 is due to the R scene, that was just very raw and I really hated it had to look away several times and think about the act of watching it, even though its fake it was awful in so many ways, no spoilers but it's sickening in so many ways, and painful to watch the actions of the repercussions.

Squares who want conventional filmmaking will hate it. Moralistic prudes, too. The same reaction A Clockwork Orange got back in the day.

This is a major work by a visionary filmmaker.

_Irreversible_ is a 'fascism porn' tweet in ALL CAPS.

Because, like pornography, it thrusts a series of images on you to force you to feel what it insists you feel and you have no choice in the matter.

Good directors are master story tellers that seduce you with scenes that lure you into their universe. Gaspard Noé, on the other hand, has all the subtility and finesse of a vomit filled condom thrown at your eyes.

Of all the terrible films I see, though, Noé's continue to be the ones I enjoy watching the most.

@saint-pauly I agree with that to an extent, but wouldn’t you want a film this extreme to be loud and in your face? Like, would punk music be half as fun if the lyrics were subtle? I think the problem lies more with the execution, not so much with it being in your face.

Tough and difficult to watch.Maybe for once it's ok so you can see something extremely different from everything you have seen so far.I wouldn't rewatch it for any reason.Directing was really blow mind in the beggining i felt dizzy you have to be in the proper mood so you can watch it and still probably you are going to dislike it.7.2/10

>"You want me to say it? Time destroys everything."

It feels weird rating a movie like this so high. It is a dark and twisted tale that has some disturbing scenes (not just the famous one) and great cinematography. It also uses the Memento style reverse storytelling and it works just as well. Safe to say this is not for everyone.

I recently watched the straight cut, and it perfectly shows that reverse storytelling is used as a necessity more than a mere gimmick. “Irréversible” loses most of its impact if watched in chronological order, as the whole movie is meant to play with the audience’s awareness of what is going to happen. Tension gets released and gradually replaced with bitterness. Even finding out about the characters’ mistakes leaves a completely different feeling, as we won’t be able to notice until much later in the movie.

Regardless of the version you are watching, it’s going to be an experience you will hardly forget, for better or worse. The swirling camera constantly disorients but strangely stops during the most graphic moments, so that you won’t find a way out of it. The conversations on the train were a little too silly and unnatural for my taste, but other than that, it was definitely an intense experience.
