It's quite tough for me to give a 6, because some of the aspects are really well done.

Let's get it out of the system which are well done. These parts are: The general atmosphere. It's really immersive, and the location, costumes etc really take you away.

Despite being a Jane Eyre fan, I do understand the lack of time, hence the story was done in a flashback format. This affords the film some breather/clarity for the audience.

In terms of acting, Michael Fassbender is my stand out actor. Despite having heavy competitions from previous actors such as Toby Stephens and Timothy Dalton, Michael held on his own as a tortured and emotional Mr Rochester. He has fantastic chemistry with Mia. Same goes to supporting actors, in particularly Judi Dench and Mrs Fairfax and Jamie Bell as Mr Rivers.

And the soundtrack by Dario Marianelli is breathtaking, which accompanies well with the scenery and ambiance. It never rise up as the main character like Dario's Atonement did, because it's not necessary at all. And it accompanies so well the melancholy tone of the movie.

Cons - I think the following stuff really weights the movie down:
The movie obviously suffers from a lack of screentime. Several scenes are obviously needed to be extended for the audience to breath, unfortunately, it feels like a slideshow at times.

In addition, Mia as Jane suffers from being too stoic /held back too much at times. Don't get me wrong, I think she did it very well especially n Arc 3/4 (such as Bertha Mason reveal scenes, running away from Thornfield and River scenes), but Jane is a character where she has to hide her feelings because of her position, and yet she is passionate. Which I think Mia fails to portray.

And it's clearly obvious that this is Cary's second film. Though there is some bursts of brilliance ( and general good directing), some angles came off as weird, and the editing needs improvement.

Overall, it's still enjoyable, but as a Jane Eyre fan, the cons do take me out of the movie/make the movie a tad bit underwhelming at times.
