Jimi: All Is by My Side

A very disappointing film. I remember when Andre 3000 was set to star in this and it seemed like a great role to launch his acting career but then end product falls well short. Andre himself is good as is Imogen Poots playing Linda Keith but the director has really missed the mark. The editing includes many odd cuts, in scenes where they are talking it might have flashes of archive footage or it could just be a different shot of them from that scene that doesn't match the dialogue. It's a stylised form of editing that has been done well elsewhere but seems like they were trying to jazz up a meandering, slow film. The good news is that this film doesn't cover many significant events and as its quite forgettable there is plenty of room for a better Hendrix film. Andre might be too old by the time they get around to it but he’s a talented, charismatic guy who seems like he should be able to do much more.
