Ultimately, the documentary really makes you wish that Jodorowsky's version of Dune had pushed through. It would have been vastly different from the original novel, but I think it would have amazing in its own way.

@meicdon13 Amazing for sure -- but there's no way it wouldn't have been an absolutely hot mess during production and execution and ultimately as an experience for the viewer. It may be a blessing in some sense that we weren't subjected to that. ;) --naw, who am I kidding? I'd watch the hell out of Jodo's Dune!

The most influential sci-fi movie that never got made.
This is an amazing documentary and Jodorowsky is an incredible person. The ensemble he created for the movie which ultimately failed to get produced was astonishing and influenced so much in the future... to think that Alien would've probably never been made (like it was) without all what came from this... Amazing...

A wonderful documentary about this part of sci-fi film history. If you're a fan of anything that comes within the radius of Dune, you'll be a fan of this story.

It really is the greatest movie never made. He would of got Mick Jagger and pink Floyd and the dune that got made had Sting and Eno. Always knew the dune that got made had horrible special effects. This one would of been so good.

It was an entertaining documentary, but as a Dune fan I am between apathetic and happy this film was never made. It was painfully clear this guy A) didn't understand Dune, and B) wasn't setting out to create a faithful adaptation of the work. He said he hadn't even read the book before deciding it was practically his mission in life to make it into a film, and he uses a rape metaphor to describe what he was doing to the work. Gross.

> “It’s different. It was my Dune. When you make a picture, you must not respect the novel. It’s like you get married, no? You go with the wife, white, the woman is white. You take the woman, if you respect the woman, you will never have child. You need to open the costume and to… to rape the bride. And then you will have your picture. I was raping Frank Herbert, raping, like this! But with love, with love.”

So Jodorowsky was extroverted, ambitious, a strange father and an upcoming movie director at the same time. And this is a documentary about him and his biggest movie that was never made.

So my feelings change while watching the documentary. But it's good directed and quite entertaining. So it's fine. But hey, it's just me. Maybe you get "wow"-ed by it.

I've always been a huge fan of the Dune universe. I've played the original Dune game on the pc, read the Frank Herbert books (all of them - not sure if I read the books first and then played the game or vice versa) and of course also - mother of all RTS games - Dune 2 and later Dune 2000.
Most of the movies and productions in this 'franchise' have been a bit disappointing so far; I did enjoy however the 2 low budget TV movies "Frank Herbert's Dune" (2000) and "Frank Herbert's Children of Dune" (2003).
I hope the newly announced Dune for next year will be really the first true big motion picture which will do justice to Frank Herbert's creation

A rather slow but somewhat entertaining look into a crazy mans grandiose vision.

Jodorowsky is totally off his rockers...but in a good way. A mad storyteller with an insane vision of a movie that would apparently replace LSD as the drug of choice for the youth that era. Insane?!? You bet!!

The conclusions to this documentary are also totally insane, and they didn't sit well with me at all, but big egos tend to make themselves more important than what they really are.

Enjoyable watch...

Jodorowsky seems like a brilliant guy, and this makes me want to check out his other movies, but this movie is just kind of there. Don't get me wrong, I enjoyed it and seeing him, Giger, and Foss talk about Moebius, Dali, Pink Floyd, etc was all interesting. But ultimately it was like eating rice for dinner. Without a finished product, the behind the scenes stories just don't hold the same weight. Some of the talking heads didn't really seem necessary. Why do I really care what Nicolas Winding Refn thinks? Also wasn't a huge fan of some of the graphical choices made, but that's nit-picky. Ultimately, I enjoyed the trip with this cast of characters.
