I found this touching as it's sad to think of any Hollywood stars from this golden age as having to struggle. We see Renee Zellwegger do a fine job at portraying Judy.

However, I found that the story just wasn't enough to make a film from... Maybe we're all jaded now and almost expect this type of story. Who knows...? It felt a little empty for me.

One thing that could fill those areas that needed beefing out are the musical numbers. But therein lies the other problem, it's not Judy's voice. And I think this is one occasion where we should have had lipsyncing to the artist themselves. Alluding to the Wizard of Oz isn't enough to portray her vocal abilities. I think we needed reminding of them here - and I think it would have better portrayed the tragedy of her passing at a relatively young age (for the time).


6/10 for me. Not unlike Stan & Ollie - but I think that had a little more substance than this.
