Pirates of the Caribbean meets Indiana Jones.
Nice try, just entertaining, not a masterpiece.

@mediacenterkodi We all do. The CGI tiger in this is kinda inexcusable in a post Planet of the Apes trilogy world.

Yeah, it's too bad they didn't hire one of those real actor jaguars.

@keldian How about you just use the budget for something else if you cannot pull it off?

Just another disappointment. If they have money to spend on the CGI and the good actors, why don't they spend some of it on a good writer? But looks like a story no longer sells a movie. This felt like it was written by someone who heard about Indiana Jones and Pirates of the Caribean (just heard, not seen) and they tried to make something similar. And failed at it. Not even Dwayne can save this mess.

If Holywood will continue like this, there will be no point at all even to bother watching anything that comes from there. Trash upon trash with more trash on top. Really sad.

@movieswatcher I don't even think it's the writer's fault. I bet it gets redone with lawyers and execs to be the more inclusive etc ever without offending anyone.

Okay, sure, various parts of this one were done better by an archaeologist, a mummy hunter or some pirates, but taken as a whole, it's still pretty solid if you ignore the weak and formulaic script and the cut-rate CGI that should be beneath a Disney effort. (The mummy movies, for example, did it better some 20 years ago.) It scores as well as it does with me because of the thoroughly likable and fun main two characters (and Johnson, in particular), along with the way that the production as a whole evokes the sense of a Saturday afternoon matinee adventure, which is something that will ALWAYS bring a smile to my face. The resolution is a bit too Disney for me, as well, but what can you expect? So yeah, I SHOULD be grading it lower, but I just can't bring myself to do it.

Apparently colonialism is A-OK if you're a white woman or a non-WASP defrauding white rich folks and polluting the Amazon.
Nice virtue-signalling, Di$ney.

A fun flick if you go in with zero expectations. I feel as though each main character was held back either by writing or direction though. It definitely could have been more tightly written though I did appreciate some license being given to expand on the mythology of the film.

“When you have The Rock on a jungle adventure movie, nothing else matters.” That’s what Disney had written on the cards when they decided they didn’t need a good story, just copy old ones and change a little bit. But, unfortunately, this movie is not an Indiana Jones, it’s is not The Mummy, it is not The Pirates of the Caribbean and it’s is not that last Jumanji movie. It tries to be all of them, but it fails. It’s 40 initial minutes have great fun and Emily Blunt is amazing has always. But then has the boat starts to sail for the adventure, and the energy starts to fade. You are left only with the potential Disney Park ride of the movie, probably a renewal of one of the old ones from the Pirates, but where at least the characters will not be in CGI.

Pros:
Fun family movie, visually beautiful. Awesome sound. Pretty common plot but still fun to watch.

The camera work is amazing. at some point in the submarine the camera moves a little because the boat is floating left and right.

Cons:
Dwayne’s character saying pants and lady all the time. Just call her one or the other. Or just by her name.

When Emily’s character first goes filming with her camera all the sound cuts since these cameras didn’t have a microphone back then.

Later after the waterfall scene the camera is picked up again but now the background music still plays?

That rock song during the 300 years ago flashback. What the fuck?

7/10

All the people who grew up writing fan fiction are now old enough to peddle their craft in the big leagues. We're seeing it a lot with most modern movie trends and they practiced their craft taking other ideas and putting their imaginative spin on it. We could argue of course Lucas and the like did the same with their franchises but I would argue they just took the art/story structure before them and wrote their own stories and characters. Now we just see people taking the stories and putting their own spin on them. This is the next version of this terrible trend in modern movie pictures/tv shows. I want the writer's strike to happen again and for them to not come back.

Jungle Cruise is a familiar, tedious adventure that doesn't excite throughout its runtime. Not even the charming Dwayne Johnson or the elegant Emily Blunt could save this uninventive multi-million project from being a good end product. The production value, the VFX looks genuine and extravagant but the substance and thrill of an adventure are mundane and unexciting which is truly disappointing. But because of Dwayne and the Gorgeous Emily, it's still a good disposable one-time watch with family over a weekend.

Dumb yet fun, right in line with all of Disney's other offerings of late. Blunt is a treasure, Dwayne is charismatic if a little clunky, and neither Jesse Plemons or Paul Giamatti are campy enough to reach into the list of great comedy villains. Just good, nothing to write home about but not bad either. The definition of a Sunday lunch movie.
