Mary Elizabeth Winsted should be in an Alien franchise. Strong Ellen Ripley vibes in Kate.

The plot kept me interested throughout the whole movie, with a good twist, the fighting was decent and I was very charmed by Miku Martineau her performance. And it’s small things that make me love it: the way Japanese characters speak Japanese to each other (I hate when movies make non native English speaking characters talk English to each other) how you hear only Japanese music in this movie set in Japan or how people actually run out of ammo frequently while shooting their guns. I think it’s a very well done movie over all.

It also gave me a little bit of a Cyberpunk 2077 vibe but I’m not sure if that’s just cause of the neon lights, the protagonist with a time limit cause they’re dying thanks to a mission gone wrong, the powerful Japanese as the antagonist or because there’s someone named V. Also fun but unrelated: BAND-MAID are in this!! My favorite rock band!!!

legitimately such a visually stunning and fun entry into the action genre. the number of times bullets run out is one of my favorite aspects of the action sequences, but also there's a scene later on that, combined with mary elizabeth winstead's increasingly horrifying deterioration, puts this on my body horror list. it's not a horror, but it's pretty and there's bodies being horrific, so it works. i'm really digging the recent action films that use just enough stylistic choices borrowed from video games to bump up the immersion.

when i was checking on who the stunt coordinators were i saw some Highly Bitter articles calling this a john wick clone but honestly every action movie follows a formula because the formula works and being poisoned with radiation is a great reason for revenge even if it didn't involve a dog.

also, i don't even fucking care i loved that ridiculous car chase scene

Very entertaining non stop action movie. I really enjoyed this movie. Kate was great. Sadly I don't think there will be a sequel unless something miraculous happens! Very entertaining :clap: :wink::thumbsup_tone1::grin:

Just the typical cliche story. [spoiler]Betrayed by someone that the protagonist thinks is their friend but turns out to be the one who puts out a hit on said protagonist. Lame[/spoiler]
Apart from Mary Elizabeth Winstead, there's no reason to watch this.

Is Kate Netflix’s cynical version of John Wick and Atomic Blonde? Yes. Was it placed in a hyper stylized Japanese setting to fit some algorithmic attention grabbing thumbnail and trailer? Yes. Am I ashamed for liking it so much? Yes.

This has all been done before but not by Mary Elizabeth Winstead and the near ultra violent actions scenes bring this nicely to life.

Simply said, this is a solid action movie. No surprises. Just enjoy.

Thank you Netflix... I'm serious. Best use of slowmo in a while. It has swords, uzis, yakuza, tattoos, and plenty of neon. I'm guessing I will not be the only fan. It also has a perfectly creepy Woody. This movie made my day. Very entertaining and worth the time.

Boring movie, a Marie Sue characters are always Lame.

Netflix’s latest action-thriller Kate uses many of the same routine tropes that have littered the hitman subgenre for decades, and especially those ones that have become more common in the wake of John Wick’s success. With a paper-thin plot, the story offers nothing to cherish but the charming Mary Elizabeth's stylized action sequences and combat choreography in the backdrop of Japanese clan wars make up for a decent predictable thriller. The screenplay is fast-paced and doesn't waste any time but the second half seems to drag a lot. Except for Mary's character you don't see depth in any other character. Watch it if you like brutal action films even if it is predictable.

a female version of the John Wick formula. pretty good movie

Winstead is great but the film underwhelms. The action is well handled but the story is flimsy and predictable.

The casting, the visuals, cinematography, script, and soundtrack are the perfect combination for a movie i expected nothing from and got more than Anna, Ava, Colombiana, and (dare i say it?!?) Black Widow.

Nice movie. It has some wonderful “John Wick” and “Ghost in the Shell” vibes. :star_struck::thumbsup:

Another entry in the Netflix "movie of the week so don't be disappointed when it isn't as good as a proper movie" category.

Some excellent super-hard violence. A very good turn by MEW. Great use of Japan.

But... Very predictable and disappointing plot. Some of the dialogue is really simplistic and out of character.

Enjoyable watch that is visually excellent but really heavily let down by its formulaic plot.
