Sanya Malhotra dominates in this vivid balance between social sattire and humour.

Kathal is a brilliant, layered dramedy in form of a slapstick sattire which moves in a certain direction but teaches us a lot without being preechy. The film's director comes from the house of TVF and its obvious it picks up the social issues quite well because of it. Casteism, social equality, sexism, polluted Bureaucracy are the key issues touched in this tightly packed harmless comedy. The screenplay is quite engrossing due to the absurdity of its premise and the wierdness of characters around. The humour is mostly situational , it has some witty one-liners and an animated Rajpal Yadav who does the heavy duties in comedy. The music is rooted with Sona Mohapatra lending voice to the beautiful songs of Nikar Chalo Re and Lalla Lalli.

Talking too much about the social discourses fused in the story will dampen the impact of self realisations which we expect. So would recommend to watch it and understand. Sanya is a gem. She is absolutely marvelous even though the character isnt very demanding. She has grown leaps and bounds. Anant Joshi is excellent and his chemistry between Sanya is amazing. Rajpal Yadav cake walks with his animated physical humour just like old times. Vijay Raaz and Bijendra Kala provide hillarious support to the cast too.

Overall, Kathal is a pretty harmless comedy which has a beautiful message to propagate and is backed by some quirky humour and good performances. If you have been a fan of social sattires then definitely you must check this out.
