Effectively suspenseful thriller. Grim, obviously, but a cut above others of its kind. Narratively clever too.

A layered and interesting first act coupled with some unconventional flips of the horror movie playbook makes Killing Ground a solid romp for thriller and horror fans.

The first half is weirdly paced\edited. It's obvious from the start what's going on, but they keep cutting back and forth and being coy about the story. In reality you're just waiting for the movie to catch up with what you already know.

The ending makes no sense.
The police is told there's two mass murdering raping child killers and they got hostages, so they send.... two officers? And they're not even being tactical? Just kind of aimlessly walking?
Sigh.

And what about
the baby? We see the dog sitting down besides it
, but they never let us know what happened.

I thought this one was pretty decent. Might be that it was exactly the type of movie I was in the mood for at the moment. Nothing really bad about it, and nothing really great about it either. I will say I found the interwoven timeline in the beginning to be pretty interesting. When I realized what was going on I had a good ohh moment.

6/10 for me.

Solid Aussie horror/thriller, if a little grim in moments, performed by a great cast.
What happened to the baby in the end, though? Surprised they just left that thread hanging; I suppose we're to assume it died
.

Great pic for the director's debut. This movie is everything you would expect from a multitude of other movies of its ilk but it is nicely done with a few predictable surprises (yes, that's an intentional oxymoron). In the end, I say the true hero is
Banjo.
An unconventional narrative structure with attempts of adding more character to stereotypes doesn't really help out when it all builds towards the same predictable results we already know of.
