"Kokomo City" definitely offers an interesting insight into a milieu that is otherwise not in the public eye. The whole production is realized in a pretty black-and-white style, with a much more light-hearted tone than you might expect from a documentary about black transgender sex workers. Even though I welcome the fact that this film doesn't go aggressively in the direction of misery porn, the occasional glossy advertising aesthetic seems a little inappropriate for the subject matter at times. Furthermore, everything became a little too preachy for my taste towards the end. But ultimately, the movie is definitely worth it for the authentic look at the milieu alone.
