Faithful, Heartwarming, Likeable

Laal Singh Chaddha is a sincere and worthy remake that stands tall due to its stellar performances, delightful cinematography, and winsome music. From a person who hasn't seen Gump, I can assure you this film easily connects you with its earnest and warm emotions. The cinematography is top notch and Pritam's compositions are worth your time. However, my biggest complaint would be the sluggish second half which could have been trimmed 20mins short for an impactful conclusion. The film has lots of moments which evokes wide range of emotions in the audience. Advait Chandan's brave attempt to adapt this immensely popular film is laudable.

The starcast is stunning. After 4 years of dedication , Aamir is back again. His facial expressions and style may be maddening for many Gump fans but in general, for me he is exceptional. His hard work and dedication show on the screen which is praiseworthy. Kareena truly fits into the role of Rupa, and even though her character development is inconsistent she delivers brilliant support. Naga Chaitanya's apperance is refreshing and his debut bollywood performance was effective and improved. Mona Singh as Aamir's mother is beautiful in her act and Manav Vij too add good performance too.

Overall, if we see how the context of this remake is carefully calibrated in terms of our diverse cultural context, it delivers a heartwarming, earnest film with beautiful performances but certainly leaves you unsatisfied due to its slow second half. The film deserves a watch, courtesy to the hardwork put in and the refreshing appeal it believes to share. A good hindi film, not an exceptional one.
