When a man is eaten alive by an unknown creature, the local Game Warden teams up with a paleontologist from New York to find the beast. Add to the mix an eccentric philanthropist with a penchant for "Crocs", and here we go! On the surface, a routine monster movie, but actually so much more than that. A genuinely witty script and fun performances from Brendan Gleeson, Oliver Platt and Betty White and you have a terrific comedy. That just happens to have a giant man-eating crocodile in it.

It's an alright monster movie, but aside from Betty White and the croc guy basically every character sucks. It'd be a much better film if everybody wasn't so insufferable.

This was funnier than expected, something that I usually don't welcome when watching a Horror movie. Actually, it wasn't really a Horror movie, it was more of a monster flick starring an impressive giant crocodile. The practical effects (courtesy of Stan Winston) were really good but the CGI was just okay. The cast was what made this movie good. There was a lot of chemistry between them, which offered a surprising number of laughs. This is more of a comedy than anything else, and if you're looking for a scare, look elsewhere. Overall, this was pretty fun.

Let's get the obvious comparison out of the way: _Jaws_. How does the stack up to the grandaddy of well-made monster movies? It's pretty damn good.

It's the humour garnished all over Lake Placid that makes it more than an entertaining watch about crocodile terror. You know it's a spoof but you know there's danger out there too that the characters are going to fall into. Add to that the on-the-point performances and dialogue delivery by Bridget More
