Following the death of his father, young Danny Madigan takes comfort in watching action movies featuring the indestructible Los Angeles cop Jack Slater. After being given a magic ticket by theater manager Nick, Danny is sucked into the screen and bonds with Slater. When evil fictional villain Benedict gets his hands on the ticket and enters the real world, Danny and Jack must follow and stop him.

Somehow I always believed that "Last Action Hero" was a terrible film. I don't know why, I just thought so. It was one of the last Arnie films I still had not seen, so today I decided to pop it in. I was blown away. Arnold as Hamlet? All those epic one liners? Some of the most hilarious scenes! Danny DeVito as a cartoon cat? Stallone as the Terminator? Arnold Braunschweiger? GESUNDHEIT! "I must warn you, I've killed people smarter and younger than you.". Comedy Relief! And I can go on and on. Last Action Hero is spoofing a lot of buddy cop and action movie tropes and it does it well. It fun and has some loads of fun action. In the end the movie drags a bit but it never bores you. I think this film is also one you can rewatch and it'll surprise with so much more. In the end, I wish I've seen this years ago!

I've seen this movie a bunch. Still love it, it still holds up. It's worth it alone for the Blockbuster scene as well as any buddy cop tropes they use in the police headquarters. I love it but I'm keeping it a half star away from a full on 10 because admittedly it loses some steam in the last act. But now thinking on the last few scenes I love it. And the seventh seal guy coming for them?! I'm back in for 10 baby. Stars adjusted.

Having just watched this for the first time in 2018, I wonder if Arnold Schwarzenegger had intended for this to be a sort of retirement movie. It very much has that vibe, and would have worked spectacularly to that end in a fun, meta, kind of way. But for better (_Maggie_) or worse (_Terminator 3_) More
