_Late Night_: A new hire's professional relationship with her boss, filmed like a rom-com. Mindy Kaling is charming but this overly politically correct remake of _The Intern_ meets _The Devil Wears Prada_ doesn't bring anything new to the table and doesn't start any dialogues. If it were a real chat show it'd be canceled mid-season.

This is fine and has some good performances from Mindy Kaling and Emma Thompson. It wasn't really that funny.

I think those who came to this movie expecting a comedy were disappointed. I came to it expecting stellar performances by great lead performers. I found a good drama which met my expectations. This is more thinky than funny and it spends its capital on taking us on Katherine Newbury's journey back to herself and her humanity via the addition to her staff of an unwelcomed but intrepid fan. I liked this movie and give it a 7 (good) out of 10. [Drama]

Absolute RUBBISH!! Wow, what a lame movie. Utterly missing anything that resembles a script that works. I didn't care at all about the main driver, whether Katherine would keep her job. It mattered not. Conversations were aimed at the lowest possible mentality, completely void of spark, uniqueness, interest, ANYTHING. I'm astonished this movie gets more than one star from anyone who has a brain or who cares about movies. It's an insult to intelligence and offers the viewer precisely NOTHING.

This is truly a brave film. To write an entire film about comedians and Late Night comedy shows without the use of one significantly funny event occurring during its entire run time is truly an achievement. This is no mere gimmick like Hitchcock's continuous shot in "Rope" but a true tour-de-force statement on the notion that comedy is the last possible meritocracy. To create such a film without the crutches of comedic performances, situations or characters, while checking the boxes of competent production is a sight to behold. How so many talented people could work together in harmony for this single purpose in utter synchronization is a marvel that will befuddle pundits for years to come. 2/10

The Bold Type - The Movie

Enjoyable film, enjoyed most of the jokes. It wasn’t earth shattering or filled with surprises, but it was exactly the kind of light “late night” entertainment I was out for, to just lean back and relax with.

Well, that was pretty terrible. Emma Thompson's character is an awful human being without any redeeming value, and Mindy Kaling plays a bubbling woman whose defined by exactly two traits: 1) she's a woman of color, and 2) she loves the boring, unfunny show the story is about.

What's particularly egregious about this movie is how dumb it is with its politics. It REALLY wants to make a point about diversity and the domination of white men, and it does so with the subtlety of a Buzzfeed top ten list. It's just awful.

It feels like Katherine was written as a male character and when they decided to cast a woman they only rewrote the jokes. She is not sympathetic at all and I have no idea why Molly going back to work for her is supposed to be a good ending. Overall the movie has a few funny moments but most of the time it feels very shallow with stereotypical characters that have no likeable traits.

Take a movie and add a ton of PC stuff. There you go. This is it.
Katherine had some serious bad views about the world, a truly bad and mean women and lets add all the political correct stuff in order to make the movie have an acceptable ending. I did not like it at all. It was obnoxious, fake and really annoying in many levels.

Yes, it's corny at times, but its also quite funny, and Thomson and Kaling are always good value. I enjoyed it, despite the cheese factor.

An excellent laugh out loud, cringe out loud film. Emma Thompson was excellent as a late night writer who has to find a way out of her slump. John Lithgow is fine doing a role of a husband fit for him and Stanley Tucci. Mindy Kaling does a variation of her characters. I like Mindy so I like her characters. If they're all variations on a theme it's a theme I enjoy. There are some great moments of comedic triumph here though. It's very satisfying on a dramatic level. However the failures because they're comedic failures don't just hit dramatically they go full into cringe and it's almost too much to handle.

One thing I would have liked to see more of were Katherine's new late night bits. The **Katherine Newbury: White Savior** bit was genuinely amusing and I think we say just about the perfect amount of it for this film. But I'd have given up one of those segments to see another segment.

The movie is a "most possible reality" in Hollywood, there's some great moments of acting and as a drama the story develops in a enjoyable pace.
I only wanted to write/point out the fact that Halston Sage as one "little moment" in the movie despise the fact she isn't in the gallery of actors above. Here something I didn't expect and really, really liked.

Billing this as a comedy is wrong really, it's simply set in a workplace that happens to write a comedy show. It's very much more a drama, with excellent performances and writing. It's totally Hollywood though. What actual classic US late night talk show has actually ever been helmed by a woman? For decades. Not just a stand-in.
It's the same with politics, there's always a female President or Mayor, when in reality we all know what happened when a major female Candidate was almost there...
