If you like movies that take place entirely in one location, than you will like this one. Characters are quickly introduced as they board the lifeboat, but their backstories are told throughout the rest of the film. This was filmed during WW2 and it involves German characters, so the tension is palpable. It's view of German soldiers would have been controversial for the time, but it holds up as a realistic and detailed portrayal even to this day. The acting is quite good and I loved all the characters. I don't want to ruin anything, but William Bendix has an especially good scene in the movie.

There were a lot of parts were the film seemed to have gotten wet or was developed improperly, but it doesn't distract too much from the story. It was fun just trying to guess how scenes were filmed. In most shots, the ocean appears to be a filmed backdrop with some shots using miniatures.
