This was a good movie with some excellent acting by many to include Daniel-Day Lewis. I am not sure how accurate it was in its entirety, but this movie was not all that I had thought it would be. Don't get me wrong, it was very good just not as good as I thought it should have been being that we are dealing with arguably the greatest President in American History.

I liked to learn more about the U.S. history, but for non-american audience is a little deep. Amazing Daniel Day-Lewis.

Daniel Day-Lewis has one of his best performances here. The supporting cast, with a shocking amount of familiar faces, is also very good too. It's well shot but the pacing is a little off. It can be boring at times and is a little too long. Still it's a great movie and anyone that has any interest in American history should see this.

A movie that I should have liked a lot more, especially with such phenomenal individual components. The acting is great (but what do you expect with Daniel Day-Lewis). The screenplay adaptation is really good. The story itself is very interesting, focusing on the passage of the 13th Amendment which doesn't often get that much play in films about Lincoln. The directing is standard Spielberg, for better or worse (you kind of know what you'll get with Spielberg). But when you put these great elements together, it feels like something got lost, that the movie is less than the sum of its parts. It genuinely surprised me that I came away feeling like this. It's hard to say if the individual parts didn't quite mesh together well, or if they somehow interfered with each other, or if it was so played-up that it couldn't meet my expectations. These aren't exactly objective reviews but reflect my opinion. Recommended, but again, with reservations.

Loved it. Yes it is pretty long for a hollywood movie. But considering I am from India, it was not that big of an annoyance for me. Brilliant acting by Daniel Day-Lewis. Has to be the best work of Spielberg in a long long time now!

A well-done film. Daniel Day-Lewis, is, as usual, amazing. Slow-paced, but historically accurate, conveying the complexity of politics and the times.

This movie is VERY boring and lacked any build up of tension
I really tried to like it, but the story is so slow-paced... I almost fell asleep!
I gave a 7, but just because of DDL solid performance.

I think the lack of shouts on this page speaks for itself :). Personally I didn't enjoy the movie that much. The much praised Daniel Day-Lewis does indeed give a solid performance but that was basicly the highlight for me. The movie is well made and it has it's moments but given it's length I've found quite a lot of things irritating so I'll stick it a 6.

As for things that I didn't like:
- The score was often too distracting or tried to convey an uplifting feeling which was totally uncalled for.
- The opening scene already set the tone: Lincoln is a hero.
- The subplot with JGL should not have been in the movie (the family drama was maybe a bit misplaced as it is more about the 13th Amendment anyways).
- Lee Pace's character was almost a cartoon villain.
- As for Lee Pace; they should have casted some lesser known actors as congressmen. Having familiar faces there was rather distracting.
- Abe's countless anecdotes just sweep the people over. I don't know how much of this is known from history but this felt rather cheesy (and they repeat this multiple times..).

So yeah, I was a bit disappointed given it's positive reviews but maybe there is the factor that I'm not American :)...

I don't know much about real Lincoln's personality, but I imagine that just as Day-Lewis embodies him is perfect. I liked the production design and cinematography a lot, as a movie not much. A complex script.

It'd be pretty unpatriotic to not have liked the movie Lincoln seeing it splendidly portrays the struggles the most influential president had to deal with to pass the most important amendment in US history.

From director Steven Spielberg comes the Civil War epic Lincoln. Despite the title, the film is actually about the passage of the 13th Amendment and the political savviness of President Lincoln and his allies in bringing it about. The all-star cast is incredible, featuring Daniel Day-Lewis, David Strathairn, Tommy Lee Jones, James Spader and Lee Pace. Day-Lewis’ performance as Lincoln is amazing, a truly seminal performance that’s absolutely captivating. However, the script has some problems and tries to cover too much. Yet despite a few awkward missteps, Lincoln is a well-crafted and ambitious film that’s compelling and inspirational.

Daniel Day Lewis is just one of a kind. Him and Spielberg make a boring story about Lincoln well not as boring more so mesmerizing to watch not because of entertainment value but just watching Lewis become someone else has always took a movie to another level.

This is probably hands down, in my opinion, the best, thought out, delivery by all performers. However, Daniel Day Lewis's striking performance made this a great biopic that will not be forgotten anytime soon.

What do you think of it?

Movies that mythologize American history don’t tend to do it for me. Movies that explore the corrupt machinations of the democratic process really don’t do it for me. Daniel Day-Lewis can never go wrong, though. That dude is bonkers.

A film of great quality that traces the most decisive moments of Lincoln's life during the American Civil War. The cast and the acting are excellent, including an evergreen Daniel Day-Lewis and an exceptional Tommy Lee Jones. Although the pace drops at times, Spielberg succeeds in delivering a valuable product in the understanding of this tremendous historical epic.
