I went to see Viva La Libertà to the "8½ Italian Film Fest" that is taking place now in my city. This was the opening film and I decided to see this one in particular because I saw that the leading performance was from one of my recent favorite actors, Toni Servillo. After seeing all of his terrific performances in Paolo Sorrentino's films, I question myself why this man is not more recognized all over the world?

Well, now let's talk about the film. In Viva La Libertà we follow the leader of the opposition party in Italy, Enrico Oliveri. He is dealing with a lot of issues inside and outside the party. The polls show that things are not good for his party and he will probably loose the European Elections. In a depressive state he decides to run away in the middle of this decisive moment in the party. Bottini, his accessor decides to solve the problem when he discovers that Olivieri has a twin brother Giovanni Ernani and he asks him to replace Olivieri. The brothers do not see each other in 25 years but the main problem is that Ernani had just left a psychiatric hospital and he seems not to be very stable mentally... Can you image what is coming next?... Despite the risk Bottini and Anna, Olivieri's wife, decided to take this secret forward.

The script is amazing and will kinda deceive you at the beginning. Slow paced and stiff at the first 15 or 20 minutes, then you have a huge surprise and what you think it will be a film about a dark side of politic life turns out to be a very funny film, very smart and real. You will have a lot of moments where you will laugh hard!

It reflects the politic reality not only in Italy but also in many other countries around Europe and the world but the main message of this film is about something else, that also can be related with us as citizens, and that message is delivered in a very beautiful way that it will leave you with a huge smile on your face.

Toni Servillo is one of the greatest actor ever and that I am sure! My love for him grows and grows after every film I see with him. His acting abilities are beyond this world! He is the soul of this film, without him nothing would have been so good as it is.

A great Italian film with a brilliant lead performance. The title is perfect and make sense in every single aspects in the film.
