Sweet and enjoyable, better and with more heart than your usual HS rom-com

Just as refreshing: the fact that it's a gay love story is normalized, as it should be. Meaning that there's not some sort of condemnation or stigma from some other characters (which usually happens with movies on this topic), bigotry, having to hide etc
And I know all those things are still unexplicably present in our world, but I also feel that while it's right and necessary to show what people are going through because of their orientation, the hate and discrimination, their suffering and pain - we're also at a point where it's important to show as well stories where the fact that it's a love story between two girls is not even a deal, not even news.
Cause I think that showing positive feedback, that it's ok - may help younger people who are struggling, to feel that it's ok being the way they are and loving whoever they love, and consider it normal

As teen rom coms go this was probably one of the best I've seen!
Laugh out loud funny and SO DAMN CUTE

Cute movie. I didn't really like the ending, I feel like it was too cheesy and made no sense. But its still a pretty enjoyable movie and it made me laugh.

When I saw this movie appear on Disney+ I thought, please be gay, please be gay, it looks gay, will it be gay. And it was :-) It's a fun and quirky movie, nothing too special but I loved the jokes and could relate to the characters, so that was great. The mother was a bit over the top but also an absolute girl boss. I've loved Rowan Blanchard and Auli'i Cravalho for a while so that was my immediate couple goals.

This was really good. Cute, funny and just almost no cringe scenes which is really rare for a romcom

My opinion is that it was just okay. The acting was so-so and the story is an overused, high schooler falls in love with other high schooler, but something dramatic happens, and then at the end everything is fine... or whatever. But, according to other comments and reviews, I suppose someone like me is just too "privileged" to understand the trope of lesbian high schoolers coming out of their shells to fall in love and make sh*tty art.

Why did they include these handful boomer cringe sex jokes? Just to make it not watchable for a younger audience?

That was just painfully bad. Both plot points were predictable within the first 5 minutes. The humour was bottom of the cage crass. The relationships (and even the concept of what a relationship should be) was vapid. Save our kids from thinking this is what romance can be. This is a first, but, I give this film a 0 (painfully bad) out of 10.

Crush is such an important movie that is so incredibly long overdue. It might seem really basic to a lot of privileged people but this sapphic romcom will mean everything to entire generations in the lgbtq+ community, specifically lesbians and wlw, that have been deprived of one of the most simple things in film over the years-- wholesome fun queer representation.

BONUS THOUGHT: Fuck the KingPun reveal! AJ having a childhood crush on Paige that was dramatically revealed through her art journal was the real plot twist of the movie. Gabby stealing AJ's seat while she was sharpening her pencil changed the trajectory of all their lives! It added just the right amount of drama to an otherwise upbeat narrative, which helped lead to a satisfying and perfectly executed quintessential kiss to end the story.

I used to watch a shit ton of cheesy high school romcoms when I was a teen and it just feels like life has finally come full circle seeing two women as the starring roles. It's nice to see kids on screen that are like me. The representation is great and isn't focused around a hateful family or scary coming-out story. It feels nice to finally have shows normalizing wlw relationships.

Plus the show itself was cute. Auli'i was amazing, as I already knew she would be. Several parts were absolutely hilarious (the principal had me laughing so much) and it had a wholesome message about standing up for what you believe in.

I watched this movie in bits and intercalated it with Netflix’s Heartstopper and it really is heartwarming to see the progress that’s been made regarding queer rep for children and/or young teens. Growing up, I had access to queer media but most felt illegal for me to be watching because of how often violent and pornographic it could get. Yet, it was either that or Glee which well… Did the best it could at its time and I’ll be forever thankful. But Crush and Heartstopper are by far a much welcomed upgrade and even though I sadly didn’t have them during my teens, I’m so happy people do now.

I'm just overall so pleased. It was really funny and relatable. Yes, it was cheesy, but that was the point omg

This was really bad and devoid of any sort of..depth or emotion? It felt like I was watching a movie version of somebody's rough outline. Also, this movie is TV-MA and somehow feels even cheesier than a DCOM.

Really surprisingly good. Quippy dialogue, fun high school tropes. Not sure the emotional climax made sense, but still I was somehow invested. I might be getting tired of the “big speech in front of the whole school” trope.

Premise - 14/20 - For some reason, coming of age stories work for me.
Cast/characters - 15/20 - I only knew three of these actors, but the others held their own very well and made their characters believable.
Story - 16/20 - I actually cared what happened to these characters and stayed interested the whole time.
Dialogue - 17/20 - I laughed way more than I expected. The heartfelt moments were also poignant for this type of movie.
World-building - 13/20 - High school is high school; not much different here. I think perhaps the most interesting part of this school was how many students were already out and how OK it was for all of them.

75/100 - 4/5 stars - I came in looking forward to it and left very satisfied. Like, unexpectedly.
