I believe there is a fantastic 15 minute short film that is buried in this film, but at its current length, I have a hard time recommending it. So many good ideas overstay their welcome, and when you're going the "no dialogue" route, what was already a slow paced film can start to feel glacial. Not to put too fine a point on it, but I struggled to stay awake. And I wasn't watching late. I was drifting off before 8 PM to these trippy visuals.

Speaking of the visuals, they are legitimately fantastic. Watching The Assassins boots as he takes his first steps out of his drop pod had me thoroughly engrossed. The level of detail is ridiculously impressive, and the creativity on display in the various character, creature, and set designs is absolutely top tier. But all the visual creativity in the world won't get you too far in a narrative driven medium. There just wasn't enough story for me. And what little story there was seemed to pride itself on being opaque, as if begging to be the subject of some 10,000 word deconstruction by the next generation of film snobs.

I don't know if there was a story. if this has a deeper meaning. Or if Ol' Phil just lost the plot after letting all those dinosaurs run amock all those years ago but man, this was amazing. I don't care if I didn't get it. Sometimes it's just about feeling and I haven't felt this disturbed since Eraserhead. Loved it.

Not for me. If you are the type of person who watched Heavy Metal and enjoyed it, maybe this will work for you...but not my taste at all

Like when toddlers are left alone in the kitchen: what comes out is interesting but a huge mess.

As someone who prefers story-driven films, I found the lack of any kind of narrative disappointing (though easy to sleep through). That said, the technical achievement of this stop-motion orgy of shit is undeniable and merits attention.

This film is pure vibes and imagery. Don't try to figure out a plot or story. Just sit back and admire the twisted, dark, macabre claymation. This film is a visual treat even if some scenes linger too long or move at a laborious pace. A silent stop motion film chock full of dark energy might not be for everyone, but if it sounds interesting, you'll probably love it.

The phrase "not for everybody" was tailor-made for this film. It's a meandering, hypnotic twist on Dante's Inferno, if directed by David Lynch and realized by the Brothers Quay. I found it to be intermittently engaging and perhaps 50% too long, but also admit that if one was in the right place when watching it, everything I found slow and indulgent could hit like a freight train. So, my rating is not so much an actual 5, but more of a 3 and an 8 that are quantum entangled. So, YMMV, and probably will.

I had heard nothing but great things about this movie. Which is why I decided to watch it in the first place.

I don’t understand why everyone thinks it’s so great. There was obviously a lot of work put into it (as with most stop motion works I guess), but the “story” was lacking. Sometimes I feel like people see weird things and think they’re great because they’re weird, but sometimes weird things are just bad.

I hate pretty much everything about this movie.

Visually stunning and some nice disturbing imagery. You can tell a lot of love was put into creating this all the creatures and landscapes are so unique and well thought. Stop-motion really is impressive!

They completely lost me when they included non stop-motion elements like actors and they were awful! Completely took me out of it and then all I could do is try to find more stuff that wasn't stop-motion and I wasn't enjoying the movie anymore. Also I struggle to find any coherent story between the segments and it all feels so detached.

Deformed clay creatures get squished, smashed, burnt, and torn apart in a wide variety of ways in a living hell that could resemble our own world. Hard to recommend as a movie as it’s mostly a visual experience devoid of plot and dialogue that will appeal to a very specific audience. I could sit through this for hours, but I’m aware most people will be sick of it in ten minutes or so.

[Sitges FF] A complex work, full of literary (Dante, Milton), pictorial (El Bosco, Cornell) or cinematographic (Harryhausen, Švankmajer) references. It is an exceptional work from which conclusions can be drawn in different viewings, as rich in nuances as it's fascinating in its iconography. A world imagined in putrefaction, the inferno of the oppressive and oppressed human soul, a surreal and devastating fantasy.

It's a display of modelism and animation skills more than a real movie. They had these monsters and creatures and decors; created just for fun, without a purpose or an idea of what the end result would be. Then they filmed sequences with them and glued them together.

Clearly as a demo of what they're able to do, it's very impressive. But as a movie, it's very hard to absorb. The first half hour seems to have been created as a whole, so it's followable, but afterwards... There's no main subject. There's no story. There's no purpose to anything happening. There's no cohesion between anything either.

It requires a lot of attention to try to make sense of what you're seeing on screen, but 1 minute later it's something else entirely.

So interesting, but really tiring to watch. Probably much more enjoyable if cut in small parts.

Mad God is visually striking and unlike anything I have ever seen. The story was quite difficult to extract and follow. I'd only recommend this to people who want to see a master at work. This feels like a display of visual talent moreso than the desire to tell a story.

There was some cool stuff in here that I liked, but overall I felt that it was way too long and would have been better as some sort of short film.

Not my cup of tea. It must of took so much effort to make this movie but unfortunately it took so much of an effort to sit through it also.

I love these kinds of movies!!
1: Stop motion animation style!
2: It's Phil Tippet's mind!
3: It's raw, seedy, and disturbing! (...and I love it!)
4: great sound design adds to the creepy and eerie atmosphere of this version of Hell.
5: and great VFX!!!!

A nightmarish, hypnotizing, endlessly grotesque animated dystopian horror adventure that plays like a crazy surreal experience, filled with suffering and cruelty, and it's utterly captivating. What they achieved in this film is remarkable, as you can definitely tell the effort and patience they had to make this one of the greatest visual ever put to screen. It's by far the best looking stop motion film I have seen in a long time. There's barely any plot to speak of and I feel like the human parts shouldn't exist, but the oppressively nightmarish images and the emotions it provokes really don’t need a typical narrative to work. Also seeing such a creative and imaginative vision is a great pleasure. If you want a surreal and vividly imaginative, give this a watch!

WTF DID I JUST WATCHED? For those who don't want to waste 2 hours of their life, this is a mixed stop-motion movie with a weird storyline. If you have watched **9 (2009)** movie, this would be a complete waste of time for you.

There are some scenes that you will make you say "why???" so many times, repeatedly.

After watching the first 9 minutes, I stopped, ate my lunch and watched something completely different. Then I came back to Trak and read the reviews. Several of the reviews state this movie _"isn't for everybody"_ . They're right: it's definitely not for me. I'm quitting at the 9-minute mark and calling that a big enough waste of my time.
