> A tale of a father who stood by his daughter till the final.

The zombie apocalyptic drama that centres around a father-daughter relationship. When the daughter is infected by the necroa virus which turns humans into the cannibalistic, the loving father stands by her side, but how long is the remaining film.

One of the blacklisted screenplay and a low budget film that surprised me for having Arnie on-board. Chloe Grace Moretz was supposed to play the title character, would have been definitely a perfect fit. Because I've seen her excellence in the 'Carrie' remake, anyway her replace Abigail Breslin did perform well.

I had seen many movies of Arnold Schwarzenegger, but as I remember this is the first time seen him in a casual, realistic and emotional outfit. Maybe his age is restricting him from taking up the tough roles to play as what he was known for, but still I'm happy that he's doing movies that fits him right now.

For the one reason it is called a horror and you know why, but it was not horrifying. A slow paced simplest zombie movie. Enjoyable film for the sake of the cast, yet forgettable and move on kind of flick.

Arnold Schwarzenegger in a zombie drama movie, hmm... interesting.

The story is about a Midwestern teenager is infected by a disease that slowly turns the person into a cannibalistic zombie. Despite the growing threat she represents, her father will defy both the risk and the authorities in order to protect her.

Ever since I first heard the news about Arnold Schwarzenegger in a zombie movie with Abigail Breslin I was already sold and the trailer for the movie helped a lot. It's about time that we got a zombie movie that's deep and indie, I mean it would be interesting and original to see then the goof over the top zombie movies that we always get. Now after seeing Maggie I was a little bit disappointed, but there were a lot to like when it comes to positives.

I know Arnold Schwarzenegger isn't the greatest actor on the planet, but he is so likable in real life and in movies, I mean I can you not like this guy, he's basically the best worst thing to happen to cinema. Arnold in this movie actually pulled off a good performance, he wasn't just playing himself or doing one liners, he actually did a good and serious performance and it actually worked.

Abigail Breslin also did a great performance in this movie playing the teenager slowly turning into a zombie. In the movie you see her turning and the effect's it has on her and her father is truly heartbreaking to watch, and her performance sold it for me.

The chemistry between Arnold Schwarzenegger and Abigail Breslin was just spot on brilliant. They performances really helped me to buy into the father and daughter thing and it payed off so well, because there are scenes in this movie where it was so sad to watch when it cuts to the two of them talking about their past life and how worried they both are.

The movie was shot beautifully, the writing was alright for the most part, the directing was good and the Arnold and Abigail were the only thing that kept me watching till the very end.

Now for problems: These a scene in this movie were Abigail character see's this boy (He's the same age as her and he's also infected). The two of them have a little love triangle and I didn't really care about. The scene it self could have been cut out of the movie as the scene and the boy never get's brought up again.

The ending to the movie just kind of ended just like that. I already thought of a better and more sad ending to the movie, but since I'm keeping this a spoiler free review (For the most part) I just thought the movie ended at the wrong time and could have ended better.

Overall rating: Maggie was an alright movie with two solid performances from Arnold and Abigail.

No this is not a US remake of BBC Scotland’s 1980s hit TV show Maggie. I was hoping but no it was……a zombie movie, another one, in an already overcrowded field. I’m nothing if not fair so I gave it a chance.
Arnold Schwarzenegger steps into a role unfamiliar to his fans and the general movie public and I have to say more strength to the actor. Here in Maggie he dials down the tough-guy hero and despite still being a rather large chap he plays ordinary.

Alongside this pleasant change, the actors, director and writer had decided to approach a very tired and worn out film-type and inject something different into it. Human emotion, the impact on the family and the country, because in Maggie the government has controlled the outbreak, let’s face it as much as some like to complain about politicians, scientists and experts in the scenario they would get on top of it, not perfectly, as the film portrays, but it would be controlled.
There’s no hope here, it is bleak as the scenery and cinematography shows us throughout. Grey, washed-out, cloudy with crops in the fields seemingly failing. It is a conceit, but it works for the film, it really works.

The process of dying from the infection is long, drawn-out and painful and the victim is fully aware of what his happening to them and what will happen. Like old age really and like old age some victims and their families cannot accept and try to run from the inevitable and others accept it.

It seems a harsh thing to say but Maggie could easily have had cancer or another terminal illness and the story, with a few tweaks could have stayed the same. Ramping it up to a ‘zombie’ virus and shoving Arnie front and centre makes the prospect of Maggie much a much interesting viewing.

Arnold himself makes a good stab as a genuinely ordinary man, and for once nothing is made of his obvious accent, he just has one, it is the USA after all, and many people end up there seeking their fortune. Throughout he is sombre and the relationship with this second wife, Joely Richardson is believable as it is with Breslin’s Maggie, another great performance by the young zombie-film veteran, both seem ordinary and actually make decisions you can believe people would make in the situations they are in.

The pace of the story is slow and full of melancholy and has little in the way of out and out horror or even many zombies. The horror of the film is in the situation everyone finds themselves in as the crushing weight of what is happening bears down on them all and affects them in many ways.

Maggie is a zombie film as interesting and unique as ‘The Battery’ which is praise indeed. The big three hitters Schwarzenegger, Richardson and Breslin play this as a straight drama and that is the strength of the story, it grounds everything in a familiar reality that makes an all-to-familiar and fantastic premise seem possible.

First-time director Henry Hobson has made a zombie film that I thought about days and days later when usually the stumbling dead are forgotten about a few minutes after the credit roll.
