I would lie if the "Spanish movie with a little weeaboo girl" aspect of this hasn't been my main hook. Turns out however that this connection is mainly used as a plot device. For most of it's runtime the suspense and mystery aspects are the main focus of the movie (hardly involving the girl). Most of the clues for the connections between the characters are not pointed out which was actually quite nice and it's not like they want to clear up everything. The story is infused with pitch black humor and has plenty of broken people in it. The static and clean direction to oppose that was perfectly fitting.
