Like me in puberty, it's poignant and interesting to watch, but I wish it had taken more risks.

This coming-of-age story about an 18 year old sculptor of noise in 1980s France faithfully recreates the epoch and the emotions, but not enough the rock and roll. Fortunately, the duo of Marie Colomb and Thimotée Robart (who turns in an incredible performance as the lead) fill in any gaps the simple story forges.

A romantic drama in the countryside of 1980s France, _Les Magnétiques_ is a great debut in French independent cinema. Vincent Maël Cardona succeeds with a remarkable direction in tackling the evergreen unease of youth. A shared love, rural discomfort, and military service accompany the protagonists in a film that, despite the simplicity of the story, is anything but banal. Keep an eye on the director and the lead actors.
