I think I saw this before Dirty Harry and thought it was great. Consequently I now see that it's nowhere near as good as Dirty Harry. Also, seeing David Soul (I saw some Starsky & Hutch before it too) as bad'n was mortifying at the time.

On a side note; the commentary on the Blu-ray is the worst I've ever heard. There's no insight, very little background and what's worse is that it's by John Milius (one of the screenwriters and he comes across a bit of a prick).

Not nearly as good as the original but not as bad as 3 or 4. I give 5 a slight edge as a movie, but this is more of a "Dirty Harry" film. Lots of action and social commentary and great supporting cast with Hal Holbrook, Felton Perry, David Soul, Tim Matheson and Robert Urich.

Watching this puts me in mind of the time I found the old cop show _Baretta_ on some streaming site, and boy did I dive into it with gusto...only to laugh at how awful it really was. In many ways, I enjoy watching these old 70's movies (I'm an old man) because they hark back to the days when movies were more about unplugging your brain and just letting the good guys duke it out with the bad guys. This was just such a classic, and Clint Eastwood was in fine form as "Dirty" Harry Callahan. While much of it was laughable (by today's standards), I still enjoyed watching it. A younger version of Robert Urich, along with David Soul (probably right about the time _Starsky & Hutch_ was in its prime?). Urich played a very minor role here, but David Soul pulled off his part beautifully. Yes, there was plenty to roll my eyes about, but it was still a good movie.

Magnum Force is the second of the Dirty Harry films and while not as good as the first, is still a worthy follow up. It contains a lot of good action shoot-out scenes you come to expect from Harry Callahan. The film tackles the justice system similar to the first with cops taking the law into their own hands. It does create some intense moments, but it is a little slow to start with. Just like the first, theirs a few scenes such as the plane hijacking scene that serves no relevance to the story other than offering us some action. I would much rather they use that time to investigate the cops or give us some more backstory on these killer cops. They were not developed well enough for me. The movie does pick up the pace once Harry becomes convinced the killers are the cops. It is still a fun film overall.

7/10

By far the best of the "Dirty Harry" movies with Clint Eastwood never better in his role as "Dirty Harry" Callahan in the most action-packed and exciting "Dirty Harry" film ever made.

A strong follow-up to 'Dirty Harry'.

I feel as positively about this as I do about that 1971 original. I don't think they set the world alight per se, but they are unquestionably entertaining and have a strong vibe about them. Clint Eastwood is terrific, while the support cast - though not on the aforementioned's level - are solid. Good story, well paced... I like it.
