After seeing this movie, I believe that I can now clearly see the difference between a "film" and a "movie". Woody Allen's usual ingredients are all displayed here: comic genius, anxiety, insecurity, etc. It has been a while since I saw "Annie Hall" but I do believe that this movie...errr... film to be superior to that one. In hindsight this film is a little troubling to Allen personally as it is yet another example of him dating someone that is barely (or not even) a woman yet. A neurotic, self-absorbed shmuck goes around, complaining about a bunch of stuff, and inexplicably charming women until they get sick of him. No sort of resolution.

A movie that’ll probably get on a lot of people’s nerves, but I enjoyed it a lot. It balances complex drama with easygoing romcom elements like _Annie Hall_, however this film’s tone leans more towards the former. Loved the vintage score/cinematography, it certainly eased me into the more challenging aspects, such as the characters. Overall, didn’t quite love it in the same way I did with _Annie Hall_, but that’s a really high bar for me. 8/10

Having seen this four or five times now since I was a kid, I can definitively say this is the best Woody Allen introduction for newcomers. Visually it's his best work (for those who don't know, the cinematographer Gordon Willis did The Godfather Parts 1 & 2 earlier the same decade, so it's no surpri More

**In the shadow of “Annie Hall”.**

I decided to watch this film last week, after the visit that Woody Allen himself made to my country, with his jazz band and an interesting lecture at the National Cinematheque for invitations only. Despite having seen several of the director's films and not More
