I didn't hate it, but I found myself not caring.

I actually quite enjoyed it. The main interest of that movie is of course the bling-bling side of Versailles. I don't agree with everything in that movie and the characters were all rather superficially describe except the royal couple, in my opinion but I liked the performance and the atmosphere.

Not a movie to watch with others — too quiet. Costumes and set designs were the best. I know this was modernized a little but the poprock music sequences felt so out of place.

Kirsten is gorgeous, the soundtrack is pretty cool, everything looks really expensive and you get to learn a little history...

But I didn't like it that much.

Thrilling performance by Dunst, who owned this movie from start to finish. Loved the sumptuous, beautiful art direction at Versailles, and I continue to deeply adore nearly everything Sofia Coppola does. This one had some oddball casting choices that I disliked (Molly Shannon?), but overall the direction was wonderful and inspired. I loved the soundtrack, as well, especially in sequences like “I Love Candy.” This movie broke my heart and I loved it.

Kirsten Dunst stars as Marie Antoinette in Sofia Coppola’s brilliant and compelling character drama. The film follows Marie Antoinette as she is sent to Versailles to be married to the Dauphin of France, Louis XVI, and must navigate the court and solidify the delicate alliance between France and her native Austria. Co-starring Jason Schwartzman, Rose Byrne, and Rip Torn, the film has an excellent cast. However, it’s Dunst's exceptional performance that carries the film. The set designs and costumes are extraordinarily lavish and beautiful, giving the film a stylish and colorful visual aesthetic. Additionally, the soundtrack and score are especially effective, and uses a combination of classical and New Wave music. A well-crafted and captivating film, Marie Antoinette is an inspired and powerful look at a fascinating historical figure.

The costumes are amazing! But the movie is over all long and a little boring.
