**THE GOOD:**

This Marvel documentary focuses on the classic concept of secret identities and the people behind the superhero personas - an aspect of characterization marvel has always been good with. It plays very well together with both the comics and the later MCU movies.

It’s great to see this documentary delve deeper into the legendary people (Jack Kirby, Stan Lee, you know them) behind Marvel’s originals superhero and the real-life events that inspired them to create Captain America, Spider-Man, the X-Men and so on.

While DC has the more iconic superheroes, Marvel has the more compelling and humane ones with real personal problems ranging from alcoholism and mental health issues to cancer and loneliness.

Marvel has the habit to create characters and heroes that appeal to different readers. By making all of these natural and well-developed parts of Marvel’s seemingly infinite society, the Marvel universe seems almost as real and palpable as the real world.

These Marvel documentaries still greatly feature interviews with people from different backgrounds and different active or former roles within the House of Ideas. The diversity factor is high.

----

**THE BAD:**

Some of the criticism toward the Distinguished Competition comes across as overly blunt, while the self-criticism (such as the fact that Marvel has, and still does, at times made narrative mistakes when it comes to characterization) is pretty shallow.

While it’s great seeing the ideas and impact behind Marvel’s black, female and LGBTQ characters, I would have wished for a bigger focus ion the personal issues that form us as people, such as Tony Stark’s alcoholism or Marc Spector’s schizophrenia.

----

**THE UGLY:**

You can never have enough of Stan Lee’s insåirational quotes!

----

**VERDICT:**

_An interesting, but slightly one-sided documentary about the fascinating people behind Marvel’s many superheroes._
