An untold chapter in the Mass Effect saga, following the early career of Alliance Marine, James Vega, as he leads a squad of elite special forces into battle against a mysterious alien threat known as The Collectors. Stationed at a colony in a remote star system, Vega and his troops must protect the inhabitants from an invasion of the deadly insectoid warriors determined to collect the population for unknown purposes. Soon after the attack, Vega's commanding officer falls in battle, forcing the young officer to embrace the responsibility of leadership for the colony's survival. Having idolized Earth's greatest hero and warrior, Commander Shepard (the central character in the Mass Effect video games), the young and idealistic Vega must now make life and the death decisions that will effect not only the lives of his squad, but the lives of every person in the colony - all of whom he has sworn to protect...

So I saw this for the first time in 2012 when it came out and I really liked it. Awesome movie, made me really want to play the game. I would probably have given it an 8/10. Then I actually played Mass Effect. All I can say now after rewatching it is: At least they tried...?(5/10)

Paragon Lost is a movie about a bunch of characters that you know next to nothing about, and never will, even after the film is over. The narrative itself isn't bad, and the ending is a little stroke of genius that ties in to common themes from the games, such as making difficult choices, making sacrifices, and the emotional hardships that follow. I was surprised to find that the ending... well, surprised me, but that ending, as well as everything leading up to it, would've been a whole lot more meaningful if the characters weren't such cardboard cut-outs. Other than that, Paragon Lost is mostly harmless and makes an okay "popcorn movie," even to those without any knowledge of the Mass Effect universe.

This movie was really mediocre, and I think all of it has to do with the character of James Vega. In Mass Effect 3 (the game this movie is from), James Vega is a really unlikable character. I found myself avoiding him instead of talking to him like I do with everyone else in Mass Effect 3. So the be More
