An atmospheric and ambitious folk horror that delivers in terms of mystery and unforgettable imagery. I wasn't sure about this at first, it starts off pretty rough, and I was afraid it's going to be as bad as Grimcutty, but thankfully this was actually an entertaining watch. I love how it gets freakier as the film goes. Although I find the psychological aspect to be out of place, the supernatural and mystery works so well in this film. I was genuinely intrigued. Things felt off in a way that you don’t really know what this film is capable of which really adds to the overall experience. There's also something comforting watching a horror film involving weird, off-putting townsfolk, I love the kookiness of it. The performances are also surprisingly effective.

[Disney+] There are unsettling moments in the first part of the film, which drifts into folk horror without much conviction. But the reflection on the mother who gives life and who also takes it away, on sacrifice, the Greek myth of Gaia and the Celtic mythology of Modron, is represented in fragments, leading to a third act that is artificial due to its bad execution.

Elevated folk horror. It's an eerie disturbing atmospheric slowburn with great cinematography, acting and visuals. A woman visits her mother and past trauma arise. Kate Dickie plays the estranged mother, she's always so creepy in her roles and this one's another example of that. Jemima Rooper is great as the lead even though her character can be a bit unlikable at times. I found the family mystery/drama to be engaging. Didn't find it scary at all but the last 30 mins offer lots of body horror and disturbing visuals. Unfortunately the third act and ending was a bit cheesy and underwhelming.

Disturbing, but too dark to tell what was going on half the time. The ending didn't totally make sense to me.

This folk horror is fairly disturbing but it's not as scary as it perhaps ought to have been.
