After bassist Jason Newsted quits the band in 2001, heavy metal superstars Metallica realize that they need an intervention. In this revealing documentary, filmmakers follow the three rock stars as they hire a group therapist and grapple with 20 years of repressed anger and aggression. Between searching for a replacement bass player, creating a new album and confronting their personal demons, the band learns to open up in ways they never thought possible.

Even after watching this, and being a big Metallica fan, I still don't like this album. But at least now I understand where it came from. Boy did they carry some heavy shit around.

I remember watching this when it came out and hating it. Now we’re all a lot older and wiser, and also I’m a therapist. This was pretty interesting, but could have used some edits. (Looking at you, Lars.) Album still sucks, though.

I love documentaries; I love bio-pics. I especially love bio-pic documentaries about musicians and/or bands. This was neither; this was a therapy session stretched over a 2-hour time frame that wasn't worth watching. There's just (IMO) no good material here: nothing about the origin of the band, the More
