Gorgeous movie from Taiwanese director Hou Hsiao-Hsien, the beautiful Shu Qi delivers a hypnotizing performance in a movie which is highly atmospheric, with the help of its mesmerizing cinematography and music.
There isn't much of a plot in this movie, events are displayed chronologically with a few exceptions. Acting is clean, characters aren't memorable, except Shu Qi.
The movie is very poetic, with themes concerning relationships, uncertainty during early adulthood, set in the beginning of the 21st century.

Like me and a pizza caught in 4K, Millennium Mambo is an unhealthy relationship filmed very well.

Or maybe it's like a broken down Corvette: it doesn't go anywhere but it's fun to get inside and sit for awhile.

Or maybe it's like a party at your friend's: you feel so comfortable and at home that you doze off towards the end.

This story of a beautiful young Taiwanese woman and her troubled relationships has little to say and none of it new, yet is directed so well that you may forget to notice.
