User Reviews for: Mio in the Land of Faraway

A strange movie where an orphan named Bosse wants to find his father. Which doesn’t take long when a floating old man head with no body takes Bosse to the land of faraway. By flying him there with Bosse holding on to his beard the whole way.
There Bosse meets his father, the King and a young Christian Bale who also plays Bosse’s friend from home.
The movie feels like an uneven adaptation “which it is apparently” of a book that quickly jumps from one thing to another. Bosse who he finds out is really named Mio. First wants to travel to the land of faraway that he just heard of.
When he gets there, he quickly wants to leave the father he just met to go on an adventure to the land outside.
Along with a Samwise Gamgee like loyal best friend played by Bale. To take on an evil Knight named Kato (Christopher Lee).
While this movie borrows from what was just books at the time. Like Lord of the Rings and a Wrinkle in Time. Harry Potter might have borrowed from this movie.
An unhappy orphan stuck with horrible foster parents, a villain who’s name you can’t speak of out loud, the orphan is taken to a magical world and he has a invisibility cloak…
The movie does have better pacing as it goes on at least despite a rocky start. The musical score is quite charming as well. Christopher Lee steals the show easily once he appears. Despite being superior to his dialogue and it not even being his best work as a villain.
