One of the best Stephen King adaptations. Bates and Cann are great in it, and make it as tense and suspenseful as it is. The isolation helps a lot too.

I`ve been a Stephen King fan for years, but never managed to read this particular story or see the movie. Thankfully the movie didn`t disappoint. In particular, it had great performances by Kathy Bates & James Caan. Annie Wilkes is a very Dr. Jekyll & Mr Hyde character & Kathy Bates plays her brilliantly. A very thrilling movie. I think sometimes Rob Reiner doesn`t get enough credit as a filmmaker. He did a wonderful job here.

Honestly, the book was much better, I watched this movie right after the book. The book was more terrifying, Annie was scarier, some parts in the movie was different from the book, and I felt like Annie: "this isn't what happened!". But I understand, the movies sometimes are different from the books for many reasons.
For those who question if book is needed to be read, I think you'd love the book if you enjoyed the movie.

From director Rob Reiner comes the intense suspense thriller Misery. Based on a Stephen King novel, the story follows famed novelist Paul Sheldon who’s rescued from a car crash by an obsessed fan; but things take a dark turn when he discovers that he’s being drugged and is locked in his room. James Caan and Kathy Bates both give strong performances; particularly Bates, who does a good job at subtly moving from eccentric fan and psychopath. And Reiner effectively builds tension and suspense quite well; especially in showing Sheldon’s captivity and isolation. Still, there are some problems with the script, such as the underdeveloped subplot of the sheriff’s investigation and the rushed conclusion. Yet despite its flaws, Misery is a frightening horror film.

Another masterpiece from the legendary novelist Stephen King. This movie adaptation does a great job of keeping you in suspense from start to finish. Kathy Bates gives an excellent performance portraying the terrifying and obsessive Annie Wilkes. The movie's tense atmosphere and unpredictable plot twists will keep you on the edge of your seat throughout the entire film.

My only criticism is that the sheriff was a pointless character. He added absolutely nothing to the story, especially with his death.

@genesisx what do you mean pointless? The character's purpose was to show someone was investigating his disappearance. To create tension when he was getting closer. To give the audience a breath from seeing these two characters in a room for 90 minutes. My God...

My Review of ‘Misery’ in 3 Sentences:

1. After this rewatch, I was reminded even more how incredible Kathy Bates is.

2. After this rewatch, it dawned on me that Paul Sheldon handled everything rather calmly the entire time.

3. This will always be one of the best Stephen King films.

A great film based on a Stephen King novel. Misery has always been one of my favorite books and this was a good adaptation. The story was very interesting and the landscape where the cabin is, looked beautiful. The soundtrack was great as well.

I didn't expect the comedy in this film would be this strong.

There are few horror movies that actually scare me, but this one is legitimately unnerving.

Lifted from the pages of Stephen King's novel by the same name, this movie captivates and entrances for the whole of its runtime. The scene with
the sledgehammer and the hobble
is one of those which has made its way into the cultural zeitgeist, even without its context. Usually, I'd recommend a read-and-watch pairing of the novel and the movie, but you don't need to because they are both so similar; either way you choose to consume this content you'll get the whole story.

Paul Sheldon (James Caan) is an author who gets in a bad car accident. Fortunately, he was rescued by a nurse named Annie Wilkes (Kathy Bates). It's unfortunate that she's literally a crazed fan. Who refuses to let him go, now that she has him. It's also unfortunate that Paul is about to release a book that kills off Annie's favorite character named Misery.
Now that she has Paul, she can have him start his book from scratch, the way she prefers or else.

I remember watching this movie as a teenager without knowing what it was about. Bates does a great job and her character is so well done. But no matter how great the acting is, the movie is just soo creepy and disturbing which made it so hard to enjoy (and I know that's the point but I just didn't enjoy it). So, my rating is more because it's just not the type of movie that I enjoy rather than because it wasn't well done.
