I'm a big fan of Pixar films, but this new animated division of Disney, which crafted Moana, is superb. The quality of the art is clean and georgeous. The personal idiocyncristic movements that capture each character are reminiscent of the work of the great animator Hayao Miyazaki/Studio Ghibli (Spirited Away). This animated movie is a gem, must see movie. Beyond it's technical excellence, the story is full and unique. Disney gets a new princess (OK... Chief's daughter). Children get two new songs with which to drive their parents crazy and replace Frozen (on repeat). The Asian Pacific is brought to life. Both children and adults will love this picture. I'm a fan. I give it a 10 (spectacular) out of 10.

World Premiere Review: 11/14/16

Frozen: Tropical Edition. But, that's not a bad thing. It's a really good movie with amazing animation, charming story and excellent songs (if you're into that). It's by no means flawless. Repetitiveness is the main issue, especially with certain physical humor which is done to death, particularly the wonky eyed chicken. I won't spoil what it does, but I found myself going "AGAIN?! COMON." Adults will find it charming and kids will think it's hilarious.

@dannyland Well to be fair, the chicken is dumb, its not going to just stop being dumb half way through. Look at Family Guy and how long its been going by making their gags last a little too long, on purpose. Repetition can be funny in its own way.

Moana is an amazing movie. It keeps up with the well known Disney format of an independent leading character which all the children aspire to be like! It has great songs, absolutely gorgeous animation with the colours beaming out of the screen, and one of the funniest sidekicks in movie history! What could be a better formula for a movie!

The plot twist at the finale with Te Ka actually being Te Fiti without her heart was so good! (I really didn't see that coming.) And the simbolism was so beautiful: the one who brought life became death itself after her heart was stolen, and at the finale Moana helped her become herself (life) again (like everything in life nothing is created, everything is transformed). Also, in a way, there was not really a villainess, it was just occurrences of bad circumstances that actually in the bottom had a good intention: Muai tried to stole Te Fiti's heart to give it to humans, so they would have the power to create life but we all saw what happened; and despite all the magic, it made the movie more real (imo). But of course the more important thing is: the children will love it! And it's good that the new generation will grow up with the message that, yes, girls can save the day too, and you do not have to be romantically involved with a man to be someone.

You'd just dive into the movie.
One could (at least I did) totally relate themselves with Moana .
She wants to get away from the normal life and find what lies beyond. But she is told by her parents not to (Thinking it to be dangerous). I believe that everyone is born Moana and eventually settles down for the normal (Which I don't say isn't cool, it's just isn't cool enough) Life should have something more to offer to us. Not just work your way through school, college, find a partner, have kids, grow old and die.
There should be speaking to nature, trusting our instincts, following our heart when it tells us to do something extraordinarily stupid, there will be consequences but it will give you something more precious, the experiences. The courage to face those consequences the next time when you will be diving into something different and sailing for an adventure.
Well, the movie will just help you brighten up your inner will for adventure.

Great job Team Moana!
Thanks for the Movie.

A girl in the pacific islands embarks on a quest to save the world.

Computer animation is getting better and better and there’s no doubt that Moana is at the top of its game on this front. The islands and the ocean look lush and tactile with the bright bold colours making for a beautiful film in every frame.

Much like Frozen however, Moana is bland beneath the surface. It’s ostensibly a film about independence and self-empowerment but these elements feel like they were written by a committee over at Disney, rather than being a true expression of human emotion. It’s paint by numbers film making.

While Moana sailed across the world in search of new lands I felt like I was drowning in an ocean of noise, wacky sidekicks and bland pop songs with pan pipes laid over the top.

Could have been so much better.

It wasn't amazing as I thought it would be. I like one thing, that she doesn't have a prince. Overall, it's an okay movie.

Really enjoyed it. The songs were catchy, characters had good chemistry, and it was visually stunning. This is the third Disney princess movie in a row that doesn't make the female lead rely on a love interest, and a rare movie that keeps her parents alive!

The kids have already asked to go see it again.

"If my name was Sebastian and I had a cool Jamaican accent, you'd totally help me" LOOOOOOOL

The thing I liked the most was how the ocean was an entity in and of itself, but the soundtrack was weak AF. I'm disappointed, Disney. We need to go back to the likes of Hercules and Mulan. Now, *those* movies had some seriously kickass soundtracks.

Three guesses (and the first two don't count) -- hahaha -- how I've seen this movie over two hundred and fifty times...?

What I've always found amazing is that when my grand-niece, who, yes, I was baby-sitting for over a year, couldn't have known her grand-father is Hawaiian. It was the only movie she identified with. It was the only screen time she wanted (she didn't get to watch the whole thing in a day usually).

But, yeah, that's how.

Template Disney story of the good destroying the evil to save the world. Nevertheless, not bad. Amazing graphics by Disney as usual. That makes us forget the cliched storyline. Good but not so great. Would rate 7/10

breathtaking art quality, but really unexploited world and characters...
Unfortunately, I watched it in french, so I don't know yet about the english version, I expect it to be better (and I hope) as the sentences and songs were poor...
Some good parts though : amazing work on graphics, light, movement... hats off to that !
They used some jokes WAY too much, but still made me laugth from time to time !
Seriously though... this chicken... PLEASE ! This was funny for the first 15 minutes, then it became exasperating to see the same joke over and over again...
In the end, the main idea was quite good, but the unfolding was sloppy

Moana is a wonderful feelgood film. It has a catchy soundtrack, a colorful world and likeabale characters. Moana and Maui make a great leading couple. The voice acting is, as always, superb and the animation is outrageously beautiful. I also like the unusual story and setting, giving this film an exotic and fresh feel.
