The plot of the story is very complex and filled with mystery until the end. Not to mention that there are 3 perspectives being told so that we as viewers are confused about what is happening. The plot moves quickly, but the plot is to the point, so we are not allowed to look away from the screen for a moment. Coupled with the cinematography, it makes us feel more comfortable watching this film, and of course don't forget the neat background music.

Of course, it is thanks to the collaboration of Kore-Eda, Sakamoto Yûji, and Sakamoto Ryuichi that this masterpiece was born. And also the actors who succeeded in playing their characters well.

The "monster" is just a perspective.

>*"If only some people can have it, that's not happiness. That's just nonsense. Happiness is something anyone can have."*

Go in blind for this one. There were times where I didn't think this would pull through but I think you need to get to the end to appreciate this movie as a whole. It feels like three different movies into one, a mystery, a drama/thriller and something else I won't spoil, with the three acts focusing on different characters. That's a bit of a hit and miss, on one side it gives you more story diversity and keeps reinventing itself but on the other I wish it was more focused. The middle part was all over the place but I liked everything else, kept me fully entertained and lots of unexpected twists. So many themes and so layered. Everyone was great but special shoutout to the child actors. I almost got emotional twice but it didn't get there for me, still commendable sinse that doesn't happen often.

• Kore-eda couldn’t save such a awkward story, and the beginning and end of the story don’t even match up. Some parts are overly forced and completely out of Hirokazu Kore-eda’s style. It can also be said that the director is still trying to salvage this story, but in the end, this is the best it can be.

• I admire Sakura Ando, her acting performance is as stable as ever. Regardless of the quality of the film, this is what true self-cultivation of an actor looks like.

• The music is good, Ryuichi Sakamoto’s final performance was impressive.

• As a screenwriter, Hirokazu Sakamoto has run out of talent.

Film with a structure in 3 acts that shape the story, the first part has a slower pace, but in the second part the story begins to connect for the final act, this act is awesome.
The highlight goes to the wonderful performances, especially from the kids.

The confused story is told from three different points of view, gradually changing its meaning and the motives of the heroes, the same events appear different if you look at them with different eyes. Poor teacher, from the first grade they are like at war. Happiness, it is clear to everyone, and if not, is it nonsense?

Really beautiful film that continues to change your perception of what is happening in the movie. The idea of what a "monster" is constantly changes in this film, and it's amazing to see that word evolve as the scenes play out.

What a great movie. Hard story but told in a smart way. Wasn’t sure what was really the truth at first. More and more was revealed as the movie progressed. Not going to spoil the ending, but I think it absolutely fits the story. Just watch it, you won’t regret it.

Due to my complete lack of prior knowledge on the matter, I found every revelation and change of perspective to be extremely captivating. I could have spoiled myself the turning point just by watching the trailer or paying too much attention to the posters.
However, I couldn’t help noticing several contrived plot points and characters’ behaviors that came across as unnatural, serving primarily to create artificial payoffs or simply to advance the narrative according to the agenda. Moreover, I found the ending somewhat lackluster, if not downright banal.
