Seven years on from the events of Monsters, and the ‘Infected Zones’ have spread worldwide. Humans have been knocked off the top of the food chain, with disparate communities struggling for survival. Just like the first movie, Monsters 2 is based on a dry, bog-standard story where humans do human things while giant aliens roam around in the background and mind their own business. Monsters 1 gets a pass by critics because of the romantic undertones whilst this movie is based on a subject that critics love to hate... The US military. Both movies are EQUALLY garbage with sluggish writing, drawn-out scenes that bore you to death and a useless plot that doesn't build up to anything. I was actually surprised by how well they replicated the cinematography and atmosphere of the first even though it has a different director. But seriously, this "Monsters" universe is a complete joke and a failed attempt at creating a realistic alternative to kaiju movies.

This is a war movie... with a very minor subplot regarding monsters.

For a war movie, it's a pretty good one. Reminds me of Blackhawk Down in its production values.

BUT as a sequel to Monsters (which I enjoyed) it is a dismal failure. And I wanted to see a sequel to Monsters, which I did not More
