There is all the components of a solid, slow burn, drama-oriented thriller here, from it's surprisingly well shot composition and Freudian entrenched plot line and the surprisingly gripping performances thrown in by Gallner and Roden. Where _Mother May I?_ falls short however is tying all of the components together and balancing the scales of ambiguity and resolution. I'm all for loose narratives that ask the viewer to analyse and inspect to unearth deeper meaning, but _Mother May I?_ comes out feeling overtly shallow past it's "mommy issues" tagline. Some will love the unexplained and open nature of the plot here, but unfortunately I am not one of those people. A shame, because I feel like the bones here have some promising meat on them, just not to my tastes.

Third Kyle Gallner movie in a week, the guy is everywhere! This one's a very slow psychological drama with a creepy vibe and not much horror. Lots of mommy issues, grief and repressed trauma. Two people isolated in a house trying to reconnect with each other. Very character and dialogue driven. It's low budget but it's shot nicely, has a decent score and the two performances are really good they're what keeps this thing going. The mystery was intriguing at the start but it got repetitive and died somewhere in the second half and I lost interest. Third act and ending were underwhelming.
