A movie for our times with a call for tolerance and equality for all. The fact that its also pretty funny ensures its not as heavy as it might have been. A good film and one that will resonate with many of us - including the high school jocks who really should know better!

Moxie is an absorbing drama, a relevant kind of comedy that we needed to hear. None of the characters feel memorable though. But for such a heavy topic, it is balanced with a good dose of humour. The soundtrack was spot on.

I kind of expected it to be so, but it's pretty heavy-footed. It tries to be exhaustive and cover a whole lot of social issues, with a lot of secondary characters, but of course, it doesn't have the time to go deep into every topic. As a result, it can sometimes feel preachy and overall a bit shallow, and the relationships between the characters are rushed.
Like when Lucy kisses another Moxie girl, or when Vivian cries about her father - pretty important moments that are literally never mentioned afterwards!
However I feel like if I had seen that when I was in highschool, it would have been a great call to action. The sorority and female friendships are pretty heartwarming to watch and the soundtrack is great!

It undoubtedly has its heart in the right place, but 'Moxie' is heavy-footed and cringeworthy in most areas.

I don't think anyone can disagree with what the film is attempting to shed light on, it gets kudos for what it is trying to say. However, judging it for what it is - a film - it's not good. The dialogue and the way characters act is cringey and done in a way that is so forced. It tells us what we already know, then that's it.

None of the characters stood out to me. Of course Vivian (Hadley Robinson) and Lucy (Alycia Pascual-Peña) are the two main stars of the story. The former irritates more than anything, while the latter is poorly written - e.g. for the first 15 minutes or so she's pretty unlikeable, before belatedly and out of nowhere becoming pleasant; in and around Vivian & Co. I mean, not Mitchell (Patrick Schwarzenegger) obviously.

A shorter run time as well as a bit more depth and creativity with the characters/plot would've went a long way. It's nothing absolutely terrible, granted. Lastly, cool to see 'The Walking Dead' alum Sydney Park (Kiera) involved.

This is the coming of age movie that we all need. It's inclusive, calls everyone out on their BS, frustratingly recognisable, witty and just empowering. This is a must see!

BTW we all need someone like 'Hands' in our life.

Here's the sad truth. These are our daughters. Your popular daughter raped by the pig who was the most popular boy in school. Nothing has changed in over 40 years.

This film might be girl power, but for parents? Wake up call. Stand for our girls.

I was expecting this to be very cheesy, and _it kinda was_, but it was such a nice girl power movie that made me tear up several times. I think this is especially impactful for younger girls. Amy Poehler is a genius

This movie surprised me in a good way - I was not expecting to like it. They decided to tackle not 1 or 2 current, relevant social issues, no, they decided to tackle all of them in one movie. This of course does not allow time to explore any of them in depth. But overall, it is a good movie and has heart.

How I rate:
1-3  = seriously! don't waste your time
4-6  = you may or may not enjoy this
7-8  = I expect you will like this too
9-10  = movies and TV shows I really love!

This is a movie I wish I had seen when I was 16. Feminism, intersectional feminism, white privilege, feminists shaming other feminists for not being feminist enough, how institutions (like a school) still actively uphold the patriarchy and more. A lot gets discussed and I have yet to see a movie about feminism that mentions all these different sides of it.

Because there’s so much to talk about the movie can feel a little rushed, or like the topics aren’t explored in dept enough. Some parts a even a little cheesy but hey, it’s still a teen high school movie. I do genuinely hope this is a movie that reaches lots of young girls to inspire them and call them to action.

Also would like to add that as a feminist punk myself it was amazing seeing so many references to the Riot Grrrl movement and hearing a lot of the music too!!! And they got The Linda Lindas to play??? Yes!!!!

Listen... If this is how we're introducing feminism to a younger audience, I think it needs some work. The actions of the protagonist are so performative, I rolled my eyes about a hundred times. This is just not it.

Also, I'm with the people who argue she shouldn't be the protagonist to begin with. Lucy was already a strong young woman standing up for herself, but it's Vivian the one who empowers everyone else in the end? She wasn't even confident in her values and beliefs at first, it was Lucy's example and then everyone else's strength that got her to commit to it.

Nothing wrong with that because she grows a bit as a person I guess, but why is this always how the story goes?

It's not a matter of skin color for me, it's the fact that out of all the characters, they chose the least committed one to lead the f-cking movement and empower everyone else when it was actually the other way around. The other girls empowered her and that could have been presented a lot better.

They want to deliver a good message (actually, more than a couple), but they can't quite turn it into a working movie. It's pretty an the nose, the characters are pretty underdeveloped, and some of the story choices are questionable, especially towards the end.

Throwing the rape thing in there, and then brush over it extremely quickly - it's OK now, cause he got called to the principals office, and she got to talk about it for a couple of sentences? It feels a bit like something got cut way down here, for time or other reasons. That kind of story alone can drive whole movies or mini-series ("Unbelievable" is a fantastic example), they should either left it out (he'd still be a bad person if he was just a sexist asshole) or given it much more of a stage.

Like this, it's only an OKish movie, it feels like it could have been much more than that, especially with what it's trying to say. Maybe it can at least work as a jump off point to dive deeper into it?

I was liking the movie even if it was full of high school movie clichés. But the added rape story at the end was really tonally off.

Moxie's extremely on the nose— this is a good thing sometimes, and a very bad thing other times. While it's definitely cheesy and cringe-worthy in a number of moments, you can't be too irritated at Amy Poehler trying to bring a movie with such a good message for young girls. Throughout the first half of the movie, I thought "Yeah, if I had a little sister or daughter I would wanna show her this" but then it really crashes and burns at the end, trying way too hard to cram some last-minute throw-ins that shouldn't be throw-ins at all. I can respect a movie that aims to be more obvious in an attempt to get the message across to a younger audience, but not to the point where you're shallowly skimming heavier topics like sexual assault.

Inspiring and entertaining movie. Love how diverse the cast was and that this was a purely a girl-centric view. Ending was kind of rushed. Still enjoyed it and know it will hit with a younger audience.
